I received an email telling me that the first foal be bred out of our foundation mare passed away last Thursday. He was fine, eating and no signs of distress and just laid down and passed peacefully. Godspeed Trapper - 1983-2009. He was a lovely gelding who raced (unsuccessfully!) was a wonderful competition horse and alot of kids learned to ride on him. He was a packer. He won some local end of the year championships for the daughter of the woman who bought him after his track career when he was in his 20's. He came a little early with no signs from his dam and we found them in her paddock in the AM, already standing and dry. Huntsman had jumped into her paddock and was just curious about it all, no threat to the foal. He was only 3 at the time, LOL. Sad to know he's gone, but glad to know he was loved and didn't suffer.

I'm so sorry. It's always sad when 'one of the family' dies. :(

He sounds like he was a wonderful boy though. I bet he brought a smile to many faces.

Sad, but sounds like he had a wonderful, long and full life and passed peacefully, you can't ask for more!

I emailed TKR to confirm, and Trapper was the main horse I learned to ride on. He was a wonderful guy, so very sweet and patient. He's the first horse I really loved, and I always looked forward to riding him. We won a couple ribbons at local schooling shows (the dressage judges seemed to really like him). I moved away after high school, and I have always wondered what happened to him. As soon as I saw this post, I knew it was him.

He was certainly loved.

What a fine boy he sounds to be. I'm so sorry about his passing, but what an impact he obviously made in the world!

Sorry for your loss Penny. How wonderful though, that during the time he was here that he left such a wonderful legacy of teaching people both to ride and love better!

I am so sorry for your loss. A good friend of mine reminded me of a great truism the other day (apologies to whomever said it originally for butchering the real quote) -

The worst part of having animals like horses and dogs is that you have them come into your life only to outlive them.

Godspeed Trapper.
