I am thinking about switching over to a Mare and Foal feed (I have been using Nutrena's Safe Choice for years and LOVE it but have primarily broodies and youngsters on the farm).
What Mare and Foal feeds do some of you use? Recommendations? I will only feed a pelleted feed, no sweet feed.

I feed Legends Mare and Foal 16. They have both a pellet and textured. I have been happy with them.

I have used the Purina products in the past, but for the last two years have been using Progressive Feeds. I swear by them. Great product, great people with personalized attention to your needs. Feed less, costs the same as others.

I've been back and forth with all kinds of varieties (including making my own mix) and ended up settling down (and happiest with) Triple Crown products. My baby and one of our yearlings is on the Growth formula. Our other yearling and the fatties on our property get the lite. All of mine get very high quality, high protein hay - so I don't need the extra protein the balancers provide - and our Irish horses did horrible on the soy.

I feed Progressive's ProAdd Ultimate to all of my horses, including broodies, foals, and youngstock.

I feed mainly alfalfa pellets, oats and a mineral supplement that I mix to balance off my forage. No processed feeds. I do feed lots of good hay and have decent pasture.

I use Pennfield Phase II, as I've been impressed by the work of Kentucky Equine Research has done on nutrition in developing horses and their findings are used for the formulation.
This is not a pellet, it uses whole grains plus a pellet that has the vitamins/minerals in it. Sort of looks like a sweet feed, but isn't.

I also use triple crown products. Specifically Lite and Supplement 30.

My mare is a super easy keeper...so I need to give her "efficient" feeds. I am using the KER-formulated feeds, Pacemaker 105, and Fat and Fiber pellets, both produced by CFC.

I'm also a fan of the Triple Crown Growth. I have an orphan baby, and that feed combined with her Foal Lac pellets did wonders for her. The mares and the other baby did very well on it as well.

Mares are on Omolene 200 with a vitamin/mineral mix formulated for our area. Foals to 2-year-olds, I feed Nutrena's Grow N Win with a chelated vitamin/mineral mixture formulated for our area.

Kent's Dynasty Junior http://www.kentfeeds.com/products/equine/dynasty/dynasty.php
I like that it's a locked formula.
I'm in Purina/Nutrena county, but there is a woman who stocks Kent and sometimes some of the Triple Crown feeds (the Kent mill makes the Triple Crown up here). I don't have access to any of the other options frequently mentioned on these threads, btw.
They have a new low starch (11% startch/sugar) feed, Dynasty Secure, that I'm switching my gelding to and thought I would mention (it's 5 bucks less a bag than the TC Senior I was feeding most of the past year). I just wish it had more fat, but he's done fine on their Pro feed the last couple months with the same fat (gal quit stocking the TC Senior), so hopefully this works as well.

Buckeye Grow 'n Win is great! Really important that the foals don't have to eat loads of it to get the nutrients that are recommended.

We feed Triple Crown Growth to our mares, foals and young horses. Our retirees get Triple Crown Senior, the easy keeper ponies get Triple Crown Lite and the riding horses get Triple Crown Performance. They all look GREAT.

We use Triple Crown Legends. I use primarily pellets but do mix a little sweet feed in with it. Not because of the feed....because of the supps. I add garlic for flies in the summer and rice bran in the winter to the feed. With pellets only the supps go right to the bottom of the bowl. Adding a little sweet feed in the mix gives the supps something to stick to.

We feed Pennfield's Piedmont Broodmare to the mares, and Enrich 32, a ration balancer, to the babies from weanling to 2 years old.

This is my first year of using Enrich 32, and so far I'm thrilled with the results.
I used to feed Nutrena, and started to notice that the formulas weren't staying all that consistent.

I feed Buckeye GroNWin (recently switched back to it from the Progressive). I have fed ration balancers since 1998 with excellent results. My weanlings, young horses and mares are all on a balancer (the amount varies according to horse - stage of growth or pregnancy and body score).

I feed Buckeye GroNWin (recently switched back to it from the Progressive). .
We are in the same situation (as we used the same dealer) of having to switch from Progressive which we liked so much. Do you prefer the GroNWin to the replacement that Jay has? It would sure be easier to pick it up in Waldo rather than Williston.

I was not at all impressed with the replacement Jay was offering. That was why I went back to the GNW. Very happy with it, plus I no longer drive to Williston for feed.

To the posters that feed ration balancers....do you feed any grain with the balancers?

I used the Nutrena M&F for a while but I wasn't very happy with the fat content since my mare tends to pace her fat off. I've switched her to Nutrena Legacy (a BP based textured feed) and she's really blossomed on it. I'm not sure what I'll feed once she foals out because I think it's a bit too rich for a foal, or if I'll just seperate for feeding. Overall I'm very happy with it, and she LOVES it. She also gets a scoop of soaked BP w/ molasses mixed in. She's a BIG girl though.

I don't feed any traditional grains with my ration balancer.
I feed soaked beet pulp in the winter to get more water in them, and a little whole flax seed and yeast culture all year long.
During lactation I add a fat supplement and/or soaked beet as needed.

I am feeding KER feeds made by Hallway's
My weanlings get 2 lbs./day Stamm 30 (ration balancer) and then I add Prep 14 (14% protein/12% fat) depending on growth stage, condition, weather conditions etc. it fluctuates from 2-3 lbs per day at the moment since they are going through some good growth spurts. 2 oz. fresh ground flax seed. I also add a vit. A and D capsule in the winter since my grass is pretty much non-existant until April and they have access to high quality round bales (which remain under cover in the run-in sheds) while outside (grass/alfalfa mix 18.5% protein with 124 feed value)

My yearling was really skinny on just RB had to add growth pellets (progressive) to help her keep weight on. She looks great now...as far as weight.
