I am TOYING  with the idea of breeding my 3yo filly this spring and am starting to boyfriend shop :) She is registered Canadian WArmblood so I would like to stay with a stallion approved with Canadian Warmblood. Would like to stick with fresh, as she'd be maiden, not super opposed to breeding to a US stallion, provided the SO has had good results shipping cross border (I'm breeding my other mare to Rubignon). She is by the Trakehner stallion Hadrian out of a Rio Grande/Pacific Sunset mare. Probably looking for hunter/jumper stallion. Here are a couple of pics:

Cabardino? Viva Voltaire? Apiro?

Apiro was at the top of my list but I noticed his website says he is only available frozen in 2010 and I don't want to try frozen on a maiden.
Viva Voltaire and Cabardino are both interesting and ones I've looked at as well, maybe they will be available via auction b/c I don't really want to go as high as $2K for a stud fee. I realize the stud fee is one of the cheaper parts of breeding, but I just can't justify it when there are a lot of nice stallions out there with more 'cost effective' stud fees. I will definately be keeping my eye on the auctions this year though.

Any thoughts on Candillo Junior for this mare? He is in my neck of the woods and I really like him! I was thinking about him for my other mare, but ended up going a different direction with her.

Thanks! Keep the suggestions coming!

You might want to take a look at Ironman, he is approved both Canadian registries. He was a very successful jumper, and throws both Hunters and Jumpers-
Candillo Junior also looks terrific.

I think you would be really happy with her crossed with Navarone (Olympic Jus de Pomme x Armstrong). He looks like good match for her and throws super jumpers. He had another son just win a Grand Prix in Italy. He throws fantastic temperaments and characters that really like to work with natural jumping talent. He himself is all around and a lot of the breeders are using him for eventing. One of his sons helped the KWPN Dutch Warmblood studbook be #5 in the world this year with the WBFSH. We ship his fresh to Canada all the time and with great success. If you need further help or questions, feel free to email or call me. kathy@majesticgaits.com Lots of pictures and offspring on his web page too with videos.

I too am of the opinion that Sir Wanabi would be a suitable match for your mare. Sir Wanabi is of a sound and quiet mind that comes from good jumping bloodlines. He appears to be prepotent for transmitting spectacular looks and fluidity of movements which is not to be neglected if you intend to sell the foal and reach a wider range of clients.

Candillo Junior is really nice! Have you seen him in person yet Tanderson? He'd suit your mare.

It says that he is available fresh June and July on his individual page and that's what I had heard...but I see the contradiction??

You may want to take a look at Cabalito. He is not currently activated with Canadian Warmblood but has been approved. I am getting a bunch of interest from Canada and would consider looking into reactivating him with sufficient interest. He has a great first cycle conception rate, so hopefully it wouldn't be too much of a hassle to deal with shipping. Best of all he looks like a good cross for your mare, who is lovely. He throws an great head, long elegant nect neck, would probably add a little substance to your mare in the legs but not too much. He throws great hunter gaits and many of the offspring are winning in the under saddle classes, the trots are flat but with freedom through the shoulder and the canters are even better. He throws a big stride and the babies seem for the most part seem to have natural changes and look scopey. He himself did both the hunters (competing at AA shows with 30 plus enteries) through the regulars with many championships. He also showed in the jumpers through level 6 before being sold into the jumper ring three years ago, when he really had not been bred since. His oldest offspring are finally hitting the rated hunters and have been received very well.

Great, thanks for all the replies!

No, Theresa, I haven't actually seen him in person. I was supposed to hook up with Isauro at a couple of different shows to check him out but never actually made it, I was just so busy.

Now that winter is here and things have slowed down a bit around the barn, I should contact Isauro to come see him at least schooling. He does look super from the pics and videos!

Apiro, Escapade I, Escudo II all have produced lovely hunter/jumper type foals that have super minds. Plus they all three have owners with good reputations which I think should be almost as important as the stallion you choose. I can't speak for Escapade or Escudo II, but have two friends that bred to Apiro this year with frozen semen and there vets said it was super. Both mares (one was maiden) are pregnant on one dose.

I can say that Alicia Padro (Escapade owner) is super to work with. We had to go through the CEM restrictions to pass the Canadian border and she did all she could for the semen to arrive in time. My mare caught on first try and it was post ovulation !
