View Full Version : Bad idea to leave hay on trailer?

In my everlasting quest to make my life easier...

My dad has a 16' car hauler trailer thing (low side rails, back lift-up ramp). He's never going to be using it again.

If I commandeered it for hauling hay, would it be bad for the trailer if I just parked it in the shed and left the hay on it, just taking bales off as I needed them?

Would I have to jack it up and put blocks under it to keep from over-stressing the tires?

As long as you moved it enough to keep the tires from dry rotting I can't imagine it would be a problem.
Lay down some 2x8's under the tires when you park it and just move it now and then.

I have left hay on a lowboy type trailer before and it was fine. I just made sure to put the hay up on pallets so that the bottom didn't get moldy and then I tarped the whole thing to help keep down any moisture that might blow in. It worked great and even survived hurricane Rita like that.
