Just wondered when everyone's babies are due - 2010 will be the first time I have babies due in March - others have always been due later - april, may, june.
Not looking forward to the cold nights in the barn but are looking forward to having them weaned a bit earlier.
what month does everyone have babies due - wondered which month is most popular and why.

I'm spastically excited about it too...er, well as spastically excited as I get anyway. I'm asking Santa for a (healthy) light bay with high black points--like Daddy. It's all I want for Christmas ;)
Can't wait.
Why that month you ask? Because I got her pregnant 11 mos prior, lol! No particular reason.

We have our Tb mare that is bred to Escapade due in June. I learned the hard way that it is much colder foaling out here in NC as opposed to Fl. I am surprised to see that there are several due later in the year too. Can't wait to see all the 2010 babies. I can't believe that foaling season is right around the corner for some.

I can't believe I have another mare due in February. By the time inspections roll around, they are practically old enough to vote!

I hope and try for April-May and don't go past June. I like it to be starting to warm but not miserably hot for the new arrivals

Two due in April. Tried February last year and will never do it again. Too much bad weather and confinement after the foals were born. And the flood in January that forced me to evacuate two gigantically pregnant mares? Never NEVER again.
I could possibly have gone for March but I was reeling and jumped all the way to April!
Edited to add -- on the other hand, STARTING the bad weather this fall with older foals was very nice. Usually they have just been weaned when the rains start, and it's hard to keep them perky and healthy and strong. My February kids had 2-3 months of growth and independence before the rainy season, and they still look GREAT. But by then I'd already bred for April and I'm not sorry.

Should arrive in early June and I can't wait already!! My 2 open mares I hope to breed for late April/early May 2011 babies but much earlier than that it's just too cold here in NY!

I usually try for April/May as well since June can be quite hot here. This year though I have a surprise, last ditch effort take and will be sleeping in the barn during the hotter time of the year! That is if I don't take her to be foaled out at the vet! She's 21 and a maiden!

I have mine back to back. The first " due" the third week of April, the second "due" the last week and April and the third and last mare due the first week of May. Wahoo.

2 due in April and 1 due in May
Civilized months, all of them ... ;) ... the weather is warmer and the babies probably wont need blankets and the ground should be dry enough they wont have mud to contend with and the grass will be growing as well ...
Ive had one February baby and a March one before ... thanks but no thank you ...

My goal is always an April or May foal, but since things don't always go according to plan, the last couple of years I have had mares cycle in March and so I started early. Who knew they would get in foal? To be honest, I would rather have early rather than late. I really don't want foals born when it is super hot here.

One May and one June. I like April and May best. June is ok is if the weather isn't unusually hot. July and later can be too hot and I tend to keep them inside with fans in the day. I like my foals to live outside as early as possible.

Oh my, I feel for you already. Did you set that up on purpose?
I only have one coming mid April. Born just as the weather is getting better and they are a bit bigger going into the following winter. I'm just slightly excited!!!! LOL Only 4 months to go. :)

Not sure about the rest of the mares here, but my girl is due Feb 22. We have another mare due Feb 10, and about 10 more between Feb and July. The wife is going to be busy on foal watch.

One in May, two in June for me. Way later than I'd like. We got a late start this year.
I did the one a month thing this year... the first was born Feb 7th, second March 22nd, third April 17th, fourth June 3rd, fith and final July 14th.
I like them EARLY. Would love to have January foals, that way they can do a bit of showing in hand as weanlings :) The foal born in July had a tough time, it was hot hot hot, and she ended up getting very sick. Won't ever breed a mare that late again. I don't really even love the idea of June foals, but it's better than nothing I guess. Another advantage is that they are older and have stronger immune systems for inspections.

Two due in April
Sadly, have to amend this. My friend's mare (we share the barn) was one of the two and she aborted twins this afternoon... Yes, she was ultrasounded but the second embryo must have been hiding. She was at Day 221.
Please jingle for her, she has retained part of the placenta and is under careful, nervous watch (and vet care).
ONE foal due at our farm in April 2010.

JINGLES!!!! SAD!!!
[I'm secretly a bit worried about this--the farrier even asked me in Nov. if my mare was due in Jan (due in May) and she's not really pudgy or fat. She was ultrasounded at 18 and 55ish days though too, Ugh.]
Best wishes for the mare's recovery!!! Super bad news...

I have one due February 2 and 2 due in mid April. Stella is due February 2nd. Thing is it's my Iroko baby. I probably shouldn't have bred so early, but the previous year you will remember her foal was killed and her crazy cycles meant no foal for the following year. So I switched her diet and we bred her on her second real cycle of the year.
But having said that, we have bad weather all the time here. At any time of the year I could be wearing a turtleneck and I never take the electric blanket off the bed. Funny thing is, I had one born Feb 23rd last year and she got out all the time as for some reason we had gorgeous weather. Then one born end of March who was in all the time.
I can avoid the mud with the woodchip pens which are safe as well.
