I can't imagine why anyone would purposefully do so. But I can't speak for everyone.

Doubt it SA. However this is "golden" for the breeders of ponies when they over estimate. :)

Yes.
But then I am purposefully breeding Arabians who are quite typically in that size range.

Our horses run from 13:2 to 15 hands with most falling around 14:2..so yes, some real honest to goodness horses are bred for this size range. I'll go look at the thread but I'm not sure what input I will have. I'm not really a hunter person but I do have some nice hunter pony types in my horses.

I breed this size.
Deliberately.
They're called Cobs. ;) For the smaller/older adult it can be lovely to have a nice stout 15h under you.
I prefer a horse not over 16h.
I'm not breeding hunters per se, but have a couple who could go that way... I'll go take a look at the thread.

Your stallion impressed me very much as one that could sire a hunter type. Especially for that great temperament!

Thanks! You should see my bay stallion...he is even more a hunter type with lovely movement and jumps like a stag. :D It's a shame he's 20 years old or I'd try to compete him again somehow. The younger stallion that you saw is having the winter off while I train babies. We need to get more of this breed out and about.

Never heard of Lipizzans? They average about 14.3h to 15.2h. But I breed for dressage not hunters. Lippies would be better jumpers than hunters, more collected, not the same movement over fences.
