I went and rode today...indoor arena, but not heated. Just did some walk-trot transitions, some trot-walk transitions and some lateral work. My horse was a little sweaty (he's very furry) and breathing a little hard.
I finished and took him back to the barn where I threw his cooler on and waited a little while ho cooled down and gave him his Hoffmans, which he ate just fine. As I was brushing him, I noticed that his breathing was still heavy. We took his temperature and found it to be low (I can't remember now what it was exactly) and he was actually cold to the touch. He had already pooped 2 times already by that point, but no pee as he has severe pee anxiety and the planets pretty much have to be in alignment before he'll go.
So I threw his winter blanket on, gave him some hay and water which he ate and drank just fine...but his breathing was still laboured.
I have never seen this before. Does anybody have any experience with this?
