View Full Version : How would I pursue patenting an idea?

This is a total shot in the dark. I haven't even made a prototype for home use, or a miniature model. It's just an idea. It might have already been made -- could be available for sale. As I said... shot in the dark.

I have searched on the web based on what *I* would call it but that's just a functional name. Not only might someone have come up with a different functional name, it could also be called the "Zoom-a-Whiz" and I'd never know.

I think I could hire someone to build a model for my use. Let's say I do that and it works as well as I think it will. What then? Do I talk to companies that might sell it? Manufacture it? Get a patent attorney or a market research company? What, pray tell, what?
