Interesting article on recent studies done on the Rosa canina with respect to osteoarthrits and inflammation, pain, etc. in horses.

Interesting article! I've been feeding my horses rosehips (whole, from Atlantic Spice Co) for years for the antioxidant properties.

Hi-How do I get the article to pull up. I've never had any luck with this website. Do I need to join?

My horses eat rose hips, since moving to this farm where we have so many wild roses growing along the fencelines. They don't taste that good to me, (I've tried them) but some horses just love them. I dunno if they have any medicinal claims that are valid. But I heard they are high in Vitamin C. Not that horses need that supplimented. But watching my brilliantly intelligent two year old filly carefully easing herself deep into the wild rose patches, and accurately nipping off the rose hips in series like a harvesting machine makes me laugh.

"You go, girl. Go get those rose hips". I'll let you know if it turns her into a super athlete in the future.

Their website is a little sticky sometimes--you do need an account (free) and to sign in, but even then sometimes accessing things is hard.

The abstract is encouraging, but the full article hasn't been published yet. Will be interesting to see what they meant by "more lithe" and what "significant alterations in three separate measures of anti-inflammatory activity" means.

But research is always a step in the right direction! I wonder how you get a horse to eat 200+ grams of powder! That's over six ounces.

I have been using them for over 4 years now on the horses. Seriously, the get 3 tablespoons of crushed rosehips and it's grainy not a powder. It's great for the arthritic horses and great for the immune system as well.

Should've clarified, the study cited indicated that the product used was a powder, and that the horses received 210 grams of it a day.
