View Full Version : Locating My Horse's Full Siblings (if possible)

Does anyone have any tips on locating my horse's full siblings?

He (Wedonit) has two:

Wars Done (bay mare, 1999)
Havocry (gelding, 1998)

I just need to know where to start/whom to ask. Assume that I know nothing except what I found on Allbreedpedigree (because that's accurate!) :)

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

There's a couple directions you can go in - for free, you can play with pedigreequery.com and check for progeny reports on the mare, which could help you find anyone who may be breeding her.

If you're registered with equibase.com you can also look for their lifetime past performances, which is how you could I'd their last race owners/trainers who may be able to give you a lead.

There's a couple other places to search for info but its too much to type on my phone, heh

check sales history as well if you are looking for the dam of your guys. Equineline.com can give you information about if they are racing. you just put the dam in your portfolio and then select the progeny reports. Also as long as the dam is in your portfolio you will get email updates on sales and races! There is a small fee. very small.

Good luck. Took me three years to locate the dam of my eventer. Found her, bought, and had two more wonderful 1/2 siblings. It was worth all the work and phone calls.

I have found some of my horses direct relatives just by googling their names along with words to describe them such as thoroughbred, gelding/mare, year of birth, etc.

I have turned up several horses I have worked with in the past or relatives of my own this way. If I came across a person's name associated with them (rider, owner, etc) I searched places like facebook and myspace, and actually was able to track them down that way.

Like Frisco1 said, equineline.com's sales results history search is also a good place to look because if the horse sold through a public (thoroughbred) auction, it will show up.

A quick google search turned up your horse's half, Winy Done It, who sold at the Fall 2006 Ohio Thoroughbred Breeder's sale:
http://www.otbo.com/sales/fall2006/2.PDF

Also searching google, the mare you mentioned, Wars Done, turned up as being sold at the 2006 Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale for $1,000 to Milton Gaede. Her catalog page can be found here:
https://secure.keeneland.com/sales/nov06/pdfs/4791.pdf

Yet another google search turns up Milton Gaede as actively training racehorses in Nebraska. Finding a contact number or email for him may be the best place to start looking for info on that mare.

Good luck with your search!

My disk is good thru 12-31-06. This is definitely an OHIO bred family, all bred by Larry Byer - at least the first and last are, I didnt check the in between ones for breeder. Check the Racing 101 thread for how to interpret the above information. All the best!!

Thanks, guys! Appreciate the tips! Will let you know if I get anywhere. Send any sugar daddies you know of my way -- need someone to finance the collection of these siblings.

Ha! You wouldn't know it. He's done going fast. He is a wonderful amateur's hunter -- nice and slow (but still with a massive stride if necessary) and jumps everything you put in front of him. He is a great horse. I am lucky to have him. I love a horse's brain over all other things so that's one of the reasons I'm curious about his relatives.

Wars Done last raced in 2007 in Nebraska and at the time was owned and trained by Milton M. Gaede. Trail might be a bit cold.

Havocry has an even older trail. His last race was in 2004 at Hoosier Park. At the time he was trained by Donald Dearth and owned by James E. Hinners.
