Okay, so I have been on the hunt for a double bridle - I am just getting to the stage where we are going to start using a double - a learning experience for both me and my horse.

So I finally have decided on the bridle - I know my coach will help me alot with this but I have some questions:

The bridle is a stubben and I have ordered a regular noseband and a crank - how do you know which one to use?

bits: - how do you know what size to get based on the regular bit - which ones to get - currently my guy is in a 6" french link -

I probably have to buy sprenger bits because they are the only ones I can find big enough. Does the bradoon have to be the same size or bigger than the other bit?

How tight do you make the chain - is there reasons for a tigher/looser chain or is there just a standard tightness.

How do you decide on the size of the shank and port on the weymouth.

Thanks for helping me learn.

I always use cranks.

If you normally use a 6" loose ring snaffle then I would get a 6" bradoon and a 5.75" curb.

I probably have to buy sprenger bits because they are the only ones I can find big enough. Does the bradoon have to be the same size or bigger than the other bit?

Ok, make it tight enough so that the chain is in contact with the horses chin when the shank is at a 45 degree angle. And then play with it from there.

How do you decide on the size of the shank and port on the weymouth.

I would start off with a shank slightly longer then the shortest shank available. The next size up, if you will. I would stick to a fairly low port. And then change from there if you need to, generally a higher port is more severe. Longer shanks add severity as well. I say get one slightly longer than the shortest one available because the shortest ones are just ridiculous. I really should measure mine and give you the exact measurement, or take a picture of mine cause it seems to be perfect for all horses.

Thanks for helping me learn.

I've included my answers within your quote cause I'm lazy. :-)
