I'm looking for a horse or pony as a companion. I'd prefer they not be on any costly maintenence routines such as hock injections or special shoes. we like em natural round here :) It would be nice if they were somewhat sound- at least enough to sit on once and a while or in a mares case breeding sound. No hard riding or breeding year after year. I've ridden forever so a greenie would be fine as well - but nothing silly or dangerous. I'm a HUGE fan of the ponies and am hoping that someone has one that just needs to go!

what we have to offer :

1 acre safe fenced pasture ( 5 strand electric poly tape and T posts w/ caps) minimal grass but we've just cleared a 4 acre spot to fence for next spring's pasture and grazing.

Quality grain ( right now we feed Triumph 14 percent but depending on our new additon we may change) and hay. round bale in the field.

Quality suppliments ( Beet pulp, Rice bran and horsetec suppliments)

A quiet, steadie eddie buddy to hang out with. he's not in your face with other equines and he seems to be content to take the 2nd rung on the ladder.

I'm home most if not all day and I can see the horses from my kitchen window ( and obviously i'd be spending alot of time with them anyway).

I am looking to 'fill the void' by December... I'd be able to help with shipping, possibly even doing the shipping myself but my truck has been acting up so I may ask someone local to ship to me... I'd pay of course.

Check the savannah/hinesville craigslist. The other day someone on there in effingham county had a giveaway. Lots of horses are on craigslist here as giveaways and some are closer to you in Tattnall Co., just look on our craigslist daily. In fact, in the Guyton post office, the carriers try to place some of the giveaways on their routes!
Sad times, lots of giveaways around here. Runnerandrider (or vice versa?) on coth has some rescued horses, perhaps one of them would be good for you?

I have one that would be perfect for you! 15hh and very healthy, sound, sane & alpha without being nasty. He was a rescue when I got him. He is a neat horse! We are located in SC. We would be willing to meet you. He is solid under saddle. He w/t/c/g & does an ambling gait when asked!

or in a mares case breeding sound.

Why? You don't think breeding a horse is costly? I guess not, if you do it "naturally." Take at look at yourself, you're one of the reasons there is a glut of horses. If you want a baby, go to the auction and get one for $50. Registered.

Sorry, people who think a uterus must be utilized get to me. :sigh:

actually i don't really care to get into breeding ethics- I was simply stating I dont want a mare that has had breeding troubles.

We have a mare at our barn who had a foal tear out of her a few years back. she's been 'repaired' but she's been living with a constant infection since then that no one can ever seem to diagnose- shes been vetted and vetted and vetted and still shes itchy and drippy and will always be.

and really- i dont want to get into all that.

And no, I dont have interest in breeding something that shouldnt be bred- but I do see alot of nice warmblood mares on here that are being given away to breeding homes- I have said in the past and i'll say again- there is nothing wrong with breeding if you're breeding for quality and have the means and intention of keeping the baby - regardless of how they come out. but since i'm on a budget I think I'll stick to an all ready on the ground baby when I want one. . .

No, you said you want one that's "breeding sound." When I bought my mare I didn't ask if she was breeding sound, I made sure she was healthy. There's a difference. Don't play semantics.

When you ask for a breeding sound mare with no regard for breed you should expect negative comments. What difference does it make if you see warmblood mares advertised to breeding homes here?

If you haven't found one yet, I have one that may work!! I really would like to find her a new home as she got dumped on me 4 years ago and I really don't need her anymore!!

She's adorable!!! Cute little thing... she's a "pony" by size definition and just cute as a button. Gray arab mare...flea bitten. With the huge brown black eyes and the little dished face. She's probably only about 14.1 hands if that! Maybe 600 or so pounds... just tiny!!

She's 18 years old, current on all shots and coggins and basically an easy keeper! But.. she's not sound to ride more than the occasional walk hack. She's soooo toed in on her left front that her pastern is even toed in, but she gets around just fine. She's what I call "mechanically lame"! I don't think she's painful, though she can't bend that foot normally when she gets her feet done.

She's fed twice daily but I also don't have much grass and she doesnt' take much. She gets her feet trimmed every 6 weeks and that's really all she needs! Maybe some MSM or BL solution to help, just in case.

She's a very sweet low man on the totem pole mare, but... she's still a bit flighty. Good for everything but does that freeze thing when she's nervous. She just gets all stiff, but she's not bad. Her only bad habit is she occasionally makes you play chase when you are trying to halter her, but she stands for grooming, is decent for the farrier (just freezes and takes a few seconds to put the one foot down so you can pick up the other), is fine for the vet, getting her teeth done, deworming, etc.

She's a fantastic companion mare, but unfortunately..that's about all she's great for! I wouldn't breed her as her toed in-ness could be genetic??! And... I would really ride her more than the occasional walk hack, but I've ridden her before and others have ridden her and she was fine. Just quick :)

I'm in Georgia and would bring her to you if you are interested!

Hello

I have a 20 year old appendix gelding, registered, 16 hands.....great ground manners, quiet, sweet old guy.....He had a very active career in the competion world, eventing....he does not need shoes, just a trim although he has front shoes now....had a coggins drawn and fall shots a month ago, teeth floated in March 2009.....We ride and jump him infrequently at 2 feet 6 inches...two years ago he was still doing 3 1/2 feet

He has been phased out for younger horses.....He deserves the easy life IMHO and I don't want him used as a lesson horse....no special requirements butI do give him a joint supplement daily....

Send a PM if you are anyone out there is interested.....We are located between Richmond and Charlottesville VA
