First of all, thank you to Marli and AC4H for stepping up and identifying this horse, and letting me know that she was in the kill pen.

Ducky's Ho Oh was on our listings a couple of years ago. She was sold, at that time, to an individual who had a lovely farm. We do not know what has happened to her in those intervening years. We do know that this is not a case of the trainer being at fault in any way. This trainer is very upset that she has ended where she is. Due to personal reasons, however, it is not possible for him to take her back.

I'm coming to COTHers to help out, as you all have so many times in the past. We need to get this horse to a loving home.

Here is her information:

11-17-14 Bay TB mare papers with her foaled 2-14-01 last raced at Finger Lakes in 05.

Here is a video taken either yesterday or today of her.

Here is the broker's listing page on which she can be found.

I remember this mare well. She is a beautiful girl and she had a lovely temperment. I really hope that there is someone who can step up for her, contact AC4H, and take home a sweetheart of a mare.

Bump! I'm going to be a pain in the neck on this one. Please don't let this girl end up on a truck to Canada.

I can't take her but can send a dribble towards transport!

Ducky's Ho Oh, as described, is a former Finger Lakes horse. Former trainer is distressed but is not in a position to help her. She was sold two years ago. Her papers are with her, Christy said she appears sound and she was ridden (see video). She does however, have a somewhat large knee (as can be seen in her pics) but it does not seem to present a problem to her and she appears sound with no effects from it.

Options for this mare:

AC4H approved rescue to rescue transfer (NO intake at AC4H).
Private person can purchase (no fundraising for private people/that can be done if a private person wants her but any private person would need to do their own fundraising).

Broker Release of Liability applies and would need to be completed. http://www.ac4h.com/BOReleaseAgreement.htm (http://www.ac4h.com/BOReleaseAgreement.htm)
Also wanted to mention- this is a NY bred mare. 28 starts. Foaled Feb. 14th, 2001

What a sweet looking girl! I am so strapped right now and working way too much OT but... I can help with the bail and could give her a spot here, at least temporarily if all of her bail can be sorted out. I'd be happy to hop on her a few times a week and start getting her back in shape.

I already have a AC4H broker horse that arrived last month... Horse Spirit was his registered name but he's been renamed "Last Call" aka "Louie". What a doll he is... just needed some pads on his tootsies and is an *adorable* mover and quiet and kind to ride as can be, not to mention having a supercute jump!

If anyone can give this Valentine's Day mare a home, please do! She looks far too kind to ship out!

I cannot take her as I board, but from Cloudy, the only Hessen Horse in GA (and 1/2 TB), I'm sending Christy some money via paypal that she can use for this mare or any other tb to get them out of the kill pen.

Status update

Things are looking pretty good. We have an anonymous donor who will pay for Ducky. I'm springing for the shipping. She will be going to Cool Meadows who will keep her temporarily and put some training on her.

We still need someone who can take her permanently. Cool Meadows will be able to do an evaluation of her, but, at the track she was a lovely and sweet mare. I can just see her as a trail horse.

Ducky has made it to her new home with CoolMeadows. I just got the call.

CoolMeadows says that she was a perfect lady, coming off of the trailer, and that she is now in her isolation paddock, with her head to the ground, feasting on the good grass.

I can't begin to express my thanks to all who were involved in saving this true lady.

Marli and AC4H for bringing her to my attention, and helping me time and again in the quest to put together the parts needed to save her. Without them, there would have been a far different outcome for this horse.

CoolMeadows for offering a horse that she didn't know a refuge when she needed one. And, who will care for her, and, I'm sure, bring her back to the beauty that she once had.

The anonymous donor who purchased this horse, and all of the people here on COTH who gave us the moral support, you know who you are.

And, to Miss Ducky's Ho Oh, who came through all of her travails and stayed the lady that she has always been -- may your life from this point forward be full of sunny days, good green grass, and loving care.

I just went out to see how she's doing and found her still munching away near her waterer. She's a very peaceful sort of girl... I spooked two of my "pet" deer (I swear they're going to start coming into the barn for dinner with the horses soon!) and they trotted around about 30' behind her. Slight fluttering of the nostril from dear Ducky and an ear flick, that was it!

She did get off the trailer very calm, cool and collected and stood without moving a muscle to have her butt sticker taken off, down a couple peppermint cookies and have a sheet put on. She nickered a low hello to the boys watching from another field and then went about her business checking out her paddock and munching.

The knee injury is pretty fresh, and there is a small scabby wound. I'll be checking that out more thoroughly tomorrow but I think that knee will go down with care. She's a sweet girl who is remarkably content for being in a strange home with a new person.

I hope she spends many happy years in good health.

TB mares are so smart. They deserve happy senior years after years of work.

And all the people who helped save her and the others deserve many years of good health and wealth.
