Talk about a trip down memory lane! A client found out I am from Pittsburgh and brought me a his wife's copy of the 1976 program! While I did not find any ads from our steel plant (grandpa must have been away when they asked for ads!), I did find the name of a woman I know here in Florida, who was still living here and traveled to the show! I had no idea! The program is 96 pages long!! One interesting class. The Over Thirty Niners...to walk, trot and canter AT THE DESCRETION OF THE ANIMAL..hmm, does that mean the horse determines if they change gait? Have to be over 39 years old to enter! (wow, that was such an ancient age then! Amazing they had anyone still alive to enter!). It appears the smallest fence height is 3', even for the novice division. There was also a family class and the Hunting Hill Challenge Cup!

Sounds like a fun show. Would have liked to see pics of the "over 39ers" class.

OMG! You are bringing back a lot of memories. :) I competed my very, very green mare there in the junior division in 1963 or 1964. My trainer, an Irishman who worked at RR at the time breaking their youngsters, wouldn't let me do the outside course because of a HUGE aiken fence that my mare shouldn't be jumping just yet. But I did do the over fences in the ring and flat classes. :)

I went to watch that show! I had just moved back into the area and the powers that be at the time at Rolling Rock thought an A rated hunter show would go over well. They had always had local and unrated shows there but this was a new idea. Quite a few BNT were there, including GM. A beautiful outside course with those HUGE aikens!
Outside course is gone but now replaced with cross country fences that take yiou over to the center of the old race course. The only show they have now is a small unrated schooling show run by the pony club.

Oh Copper you are making me so homesick! :(

Barring any disaster here in Rochester next summer I'm definitely coming back to visit for a few days at least and will stay with my 'big little brother' Marc. You are on my list to come and meet for sure. :) And a trip back to RR and Idlewild and other spots are on my agenda. See you then. :) :)
