... in rats. :D

Here's an interesting abstract from Osteoporosis International called "Minimum level of jumping exercise required to maintain exercise-induced bone gains in female rats." (http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18839049)

This study was mentioned in a broader article in the New York Times (http://well.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/11/phys-ed-the-best-exercises-for-healthy-bones/?em) about exercise and bone health, which is quite fascinating.

Extrapolating this to horses, the concept of a controlled loading period followed by a maintenance regimen is intriguing.

And yes, I do know that horses are larger than rats, although I've seen some in the back alleys of New Orleans and the NYC subways that could probably get pony cards.
