Four white socks?

I know...another naming thread....so sorry....but we are stuck. He's a nice chestnut gelding and we need it to be no more than two words, or one word -- we are calling him (this is so lame) "Red" for now. Help, help please!

What are your other horse's names - sometimes, like breeders, then you can tie in markings w/ some kind of theme.. for example a friend of mine had "day" in all her horse's names - Whataday, Day-by-Day, etc. So you could try something along those lines. It's fun to try to make the words fit

Well...thanks for the suggestions....we haven't seen any yet that jumped out at us....we don't like any with the sock references, none of those fit this horse. He's quietly elegant, really, when he is in a good mood and behaving well. He can be a typical TB at times, tho!
Knee Deep wasn't bad but his whites don't go up that high.
Someone today suggested Grenadine. I'm not a bar fiend...does anyone have any good drink name suggestions for something red and white?

I had a hard time thinking of a name for my chestnut gelding,in the end I settled on calling him after a brand of Cognac, but at his first show there were 2 other horses with the same name.
The name I wish I had chosen was Marron Glace, proun: ma ron gla say.

If you want something elegant and classy, go with a french or italian name. I was looking for something for Rico, and I wanted it to start with either an R or a T, or something that meant red or chestnut. I love Castagne, which is chestnut in Italian, but I realized it would be butchered at shows, so I went for Razzaro instead, which simply means 'young lad', and that seemed to fit his personality nicely. If I could have found a cool version of the word troublemaker, I would have jumped on it!

clairdelune
Nov. 17, 2009, 10:06 PM
French for chestnut is Marron or German it is Kastanie, both are quite easy to say.I agree with Trevelyan96 a name in a different language has a lot of class!

... hopefully I won't sound like a barfly either.

Manhattan (though this would probably get misunderstood)
Bellini (though that is more pink/gold than red/white)
Chambord (raspberry liqueur)
Calimocho (red wine and cola)
Sazerac

or, you could always give him a people name. There are a million ways to make a horse sound "dignified"... or you could call him Pepe Le Pew.

I like the Amaretto suggestion above, but maybe adding a type of dance as well? I think a name of a dance would be a pretty, subtler way of drawing attention to his legs. Waltzing Amaretto or Amaretto Rumba would be nice. Or for that matter Red Rumba :)

I'm a fan of alliteration anyday (heh heh) as a general rule- think it's catchy and memorable and can either be fun or fancy.

Lesseeeehere, which other dances are there...
(from wiki)

Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot (cute if he's a red chestnut), Quickstep (maaaybe not for a hunter!), Samba, Chachacha, Rumba, Paso Doble, Jive, East Coast Swing, Mambo...
