Many of these horses are going for next to nothing...the trainers need to find homes for the ones that are not shipping to other tracks.

Racing ended on 11/7, horses are still there but track closes very soon.

Please check out the website!

Hi all-

There are still some very nice horses left but they are leaving fast. Our website is pretty much fully updated so please visit www.canterne.org for horses who are still available; we haven't had a chance to update from this weekend but Flying Freddie and Anotha Toughcookie are both sold.

I encourage everyone to call the trainers directly of any horses they are interested in.

We do still have a few horses who are in urgent need of homes; you can see their pictures on the website except Point to Glory, I'll put his pictures up on our Facebook page tonight:

09-2785-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 16.1 hands, 5 years old

"Kinfolk Moonshine" is a big boy with a kind eye and a big stride. He hates being stalled at the track and he would do best in a situation where he can have an in/out or lots of turnout. Looks like good potential as an eventer.

Price: $800 Call Pete at 617 633-1640 or Frank at 781-420-1224.

T09-2805-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 16 hands, 7 years old

"Volcanic Force" is nice gelding and a old classy warrior who ran in last year's Massachusetts Handicap! Trainer reports that his is excellent to work with, but is showing signs of wear and tear in his ankle and is ready to retire and go to a new home. Another horse who screams class, he is solidly build and has a great personality.

Price: $500 Hector 617-833-0280

09-2839-10. TRAINER-OWNED MARE
Bay, 15.3 hands, 5 years old

"Anastasia K" left the volunteers with just two words to describe her: “super cute”! Trainer is selling because she is just not running the way she needs too in order to move on to other tracks and they need to make more room in the stable for horses that can compete. She was very quiet as we took her picture and doesn’t get bothered by much according to her trainer.

Price: $500 Call Junior at at 646-645-9549.

T09-2849-10. TRAINER-OWNED GELDING
Bay, 16.2 hands, 5 years old

"Rainbow Glide" is a very sweet guy recently sustained a small suspensory issue that is still healing. Trainer reports that he’s begun treatment and with some time off should tighten up. Great to work with and a very attractive horse, he should make an excellent prospect with some time off and TLC. Trainer just can’t devote the time to treat him as the end of the meet approaches.

Price: $500 Call Bernie Bramante at 617-291-5104

“Point to Glory” is another very sweet guy, 5 year old bay gelding, about 16 hands. He couldn’t have been more adorable when I went to visit him. Does have a large bow, but with time off and TLC should turn into a great companion horses for someone or a light riding trail horse. Really a doll, and really needs a home.

Price: $500 Call Junior at at 646-645-9549.

I brought home I'm Your Buckaroo on Friday and he is INCREDIBLE!!! Settled right in and my 13 yr old daughter has been handling him(supervised of course) and he is a total gentleman.

I saw many really nice horses when I was there. PLEASE, if you can give someone a home call the trainers. Most of the horses I saw were give aways and they were nice horses!

KD that is so great!! Glad to hear Buckaroo is doing well.

The days that Suffolk is still open are down to 2! I hope the others find homes...I am sorry I can't take anymore.

Bumping this up for all the horses that need a home...

....one of my best friends went to buy/pick up "Kiss My Valentine" at Suffolk yesterday and even though it's not even 24 hours yet, she is thrilled with this beautiful 3 year old! A great little package, a chestnut with chrome, a really pretty quarter horse build and at 15.2 she's got some more growing to do. Although she went with cash in hand as several of these perfectly sound TB's were going for approx. $500.00, when she arrived, she found that her bill of sale was for $1.00 (another nice surprise!). I'm looking forward to living vicariously through my friend and that's because I was supposed to go for the ride with her but thank gosh I didn't as I am absolutely certain that the other side of the trailer would have had a new TB for me riding shotgun to "Kiss My Valentine"!

Any COTH'ers looked at Montana Country?

http://www.canterne.org/images-salehorses/MontanaCountry.jpg

Description says knee chips, but I wonder what the deal is. He really stood out at me when I browsed through the pics.

These threads drive me crazy because I've been trying to find another block of stalls somewhere to pick up a few projects like these and its been so difficult. :sigh:

There are chips and there are chips...
My A/A Hunter had chips is 3 out of 4 ankles when I got him. The surgeon at Belmont Park said based on the x-rays, to inject w/ acid. They re-absorbed and I never had a problem in all the years I showed him. He won everywhere and was very successful.

So it all depends, nothing is cut and dry when it comes to that issue. If you can look at him and get the x rays and maybe do a ppe that would be best. From the photo of Montana, the knees appear to be flat...

Hope you can get up there and see him!

I picked up Anotha Toughcookie ("Elsie") last Saturday and what a fabulous 4-yr old mare she is! Chestnut with a TON Of chrome, 16 h and a doll to work with. My vet came to give her the once over yesterday and commented that she has amazingly clean legs for a race horse (she raced on the last day) and was a sweet, sweet horse to work with. She is already going out all day and settled into a great routine.

I LOVED Anastasia K as well and had a terrible time deciding between the two. I sure hope someone takes that mare.

I love Recommend This, just don't have the purchase cash right now. What a looker - let me know if they are planning on letting him go for a song - have my own barn and can well afford the care.

Anywhere to see these guys by the bundle in the SE? I'm pretty close to Aiken and Camden. I love my OTTB, and would like another, but do not want to make a drive like that-personally.

Yeah thats what I was thinking about. I've had many with chips before, some are no biggie some are a huge investment to fix. Going to see if I can get a friend up there to check it out and possibly hold on to him for a bit.

Jinxy - Hope it works out for you and Montana!

I just got one from Finger Lakes that has a chip in his left knee. There is some arthritis too and fluid above the joint. My vet will drain it this week and inject Legend most likely. Lovely horse, huge, great mind and a real sweetie. I just want to make him comfortable, he will always have a home with me.

Any updates on horses leaving from Suffolk today??

Probably too late now BUT if Woods Forrester can get here to NC I would take him. Money is tight so cannot put a lot into him but he looks like the type I LOVE!

May try and call tomorrow, not sure if perhaps a shipment coming donw to florida could give him a ride reasonably, I do not mind giving him a home, but funds to pay for shipping etc are limited with winter coming on. Unfrotunately with no indoor lots of lessons (i.e. my income!) get cancelled due to weather this time of year! But he jsut looks like the kind of horse I really enjoy, love that face!!

Have an OTTB here right now that I bought back in September came off the track this apst sumemr after four years racing and $67K in earnings, he is really a NICE guy and today a 17 yr old student of mine rode him for the first time since we got him in September and he was just super! Been letting him down, getting some weight on him and just hanging out since I got him.

I agree on the hanging out time! It does wonders.
The mare that I recently got from Suffolk is doing just that, with turn out and some short grooming and daily foot care...she went from grinding her teeth in anticipation when I put the halter on, to standing in the aisle with a shank over her neck.

Seeing ground manners change for the better is so satisfying! As much as progessing under saddle...

So.. I'm at work- working hard surfing the internet-and I jsut happened to throw "Kiss My Valentine" into Google to see what I could find out about my pet project. And then I saw this forum topic and lo and behold!! Someone mentioned her by name!!!

Anyone want an update? Of course you do! Who doesn't like a good horse story?!

After having worked with "Rosie" and her owner for about 3 months now we are pretty sure bad things happened to her in her past life- reasonably unmanageable at first, this cute-as-a-button little girl has made significant progress in the face of decent odds. She has now come back from cancer in her inner eyelid (removed without needing further surgery! Cross your fingers!!) and at least 2 HUGE abscesses in her right front hoof, to be working consistently on a lunge line with saddle and bridle.

From biting you just about every opportunity she could get and kicking every time you get behind her shoulder, tearing through crossties like they're going on sale and giving you angry faces or threatening feet/teeth you every time you approach her stall (nevermind walk in it!!), she has found some peace.

She no longer tries to nip you when you approach her- stall or otherwise-, you can groom almost everywhere without her disapproval, crossties now held together by baling twine(hey, us humans DO learn!!) haven't parted ways in at least 3 weeks, and she even looks forward to putting on her working halter so much, she'll let you in her stall without too many angry faces.

She went on her first trail walk the other day and didn't even blink when a rabbit popped out of the bush or a bird went flying by (though you can bet your butt I did! Along with a small curse and a prayer! hah)

We have big plans for this little lady- today we lunge, tomorrow the WORLD!!

Now that was a nice update and a pleasant surprise to read...

Anyone else out there with horses from Suffolk from 2009 and want to add on their progress?
