View Full Version : replacing oster clipmasters with something new

My oster variable speed clipmasters have bit it in not one but two ways. They only work if you jiggle the cord a certain way, and one of the arms that moves the inner blade has snapped. I can mail them out of town to an oster dealer who by phone said approx $140 of work needs to be done. They are less than five years old. I clip around 15 horses per year. Boo for clippers costing an arm and a leg!

Seeing as I discovered their many problems after I had already started on a clients horse I had to barrow clippers from a friend. She lent me a pair of heiniger clippers which all I can say is WOW. These are way better than the clipmasters. Lighter, quieter(by a bit?) and seemed like they did a great job even with somewhat dull blades.

Is there a heiniger dealer in north america?

What about the Lister and Laube body clippers? Any reviews of other brands?

Glad you started this thread! I just bought the Andis ACG2 and I love them but I don't know how they'll hold up to heavy duty body clipping so I'm looking for a set that can also body clip yaks! I will say that I'm amazed at how quiet they are and they did a fantastic job clipping my TB cross!

I have the Laubes-one pair from about 15 years ago and another set much newer. I love the older ones-the newer ones do a decent job but I think for the price range, many more people seem happier with the Lister Stars. I did a thread search and only saw 1 complaint on the Listers-although the blades can be a bit pricey.

Right now it's between the Listers and the Double K. I like the Double K because I already have a ton of A 5 blades but it seems the cord does bother some people and not others. Both the Listers and the Double Ks are lightweight and powerful-important if body clipping as many horses as you are.

I'd love to hear others opinions on this!!

For body clipping the Lister is a fabulous product. Light weight in your hand with enough power to clip through thick hair like a warm knife in butter. Seriously, you can body clip a horse then actually dial a number on your cell phones tiny punch pad because your hand isn't vibrating. I've had my Listers for 5 years and they have not been any problem.
