Prefer nice quality leather with buckles, no flash and by my measurements he's probably closest to a WB size, despite being only 14.1 hands he wears a 6 inch bit. Unfortunately the matching reins in the WB size will probably be way too long so I'm looking for sites that I might be able to put various pieces/sizes together to build a "custom" bridle?

You could put together your own pieces here; http://www.calcuttandsons.co.uk/acatalog/Bridles.html
reins; http://www.calcuttandsons.co.uk/acatalog/Reins.html

good stuff too!

Have you tried Jerry's Harness Shop? You can specify the size of just about every part of the bridle. Very nice quality and great service.

These people were advertised on COTH before the re-design.... http://www.justbridles.com/ I believe you can pick parts and pieces of various sizes to suite your needs.

I have a youngster with a bit of a Roman nose. He is too young for a bridle quite yet but I have wondered about what kind of bridle for him eventually.

One of the thicker ones might accent his wider nose so I think I will try just a mid-range bridle with a eye catching brow band.

Or just wear a nice quality plain black bridle and forget about accenting the head whatsoever.

great suggestions and have checked out a few of the sites. Missed out on a bridle for sale via the BAEN classifieds, it was nice leather and pretty much what I was looking for but again the matching reins would've been too long so its looking like I'll have to customize something for my big fjord boy.....thanks again!

Some brand sell the reins separately, but I cannot remember which ones.

SmartPak has wonderful customer service, have you tried calling them to see what they have that might work?

I ended up combining a cob and full horse size bridle (big on top of head, slender on bottom -- strange shape for pony head). Even the cob reins were too long. I just put a knot in each side and they are fine. No one has ever noticed the knot. I kept meaning to have a shoemaker shorten the reins but never got around to it since no one ever commented on the knots.

I second the Jerry's suggestion.

I have a couple of Jerry's bridles and the quality is just superb. My Morgan needed various sizes pieces in one bridle - I had to use a WB browband to accomodate his big brain.

You won't be disappointed!

Agreed. Jerry's bridles are pricey but the quality is amazing. Their narrowest leather is still a bit too wide for my Morgan mare's very feminine head, but the bridle is lovely.

Their sizing runs quite large and I may ask them if they can trim certain parts down to pony size. (They don't sell pony size bridles "off the rack" but will do custom work.) I also had to get a full size browband for maresy's big Morgan brain; their full size browband is as big as many brands' WB size.
