I just got my horses home (they arrived on Saturday! :)) and I don't know enough about worming. Should I use a daily worming regimen, or 6 week routine, for two out of work twenty-year olds?

Thanks!

daily dewormers i think have the majority decision that they do nothing more than build worm resistance. This time of year is ivermectin/prazi where i live (se). Your best bet is to call your vet and have them design a plan for you.

Tons of threads, some fairly recent, on deworming :)

If you don't want to wade through them, go to www.thehorse.com and look on the left for the Webinars. Look at the Strategic Deworming webinar. The more educated you become on what the chemicals are, and what parasites they attack (and just as importantly, which ones they DON'T get anymore) the more educated decisions you can make for your own situation :)

A lot depends on where you're keeping your horses. Are you boarding them or keeping at home? What type of turnout situation will they have? A crowded acreage with an open herd requires a more aggressive de-worming program than a small closed herd on large acreage.

I would not do daily. I rotate mine every 2 months between Ivermectin Gold (for tapes)/ DD pyrantel / DD oxybendazole. Fecal Egg Counts once a year in the fall after their DD of pyrantel It seems to work on my small place.
