For the horse's entire existence? And when the one that has seemed to work starts to fade, do you just bump up the dose or try another like brand/product?
I have an old hunter I had to retire for his many soundness issues over a year ago, and he steadily deteriorated, to the point where all he wanted to do is lay down in the field. I almost had the vet come to put him down, but I just couldn't pick up the phone. In desperation I bought a tub of Recovery EQ and gave him the loading dose for a month. I'm not kidding, this horse is RENEWED! He's been on it for over a year now, and he's like a spring colt again. I can even lightly ride him, at all gaits, as long as the jaunts are short. Truly a miracle substance, and I will indeed keep him on it forever.
But I've had limited luck with other supplements for the other gelding. He had a slipping problem behind for a while, so I put him on various joint supps over a two year period, after doing the radio graphs and getting a good idea of his joint health. All of them help a lot, except there will be other things not so great. Like his leaving most of the stuff in his feed bucket, one caused him to have anal leakage (UGH!) and whatever, maybe some tummy issues, like situations where some ingredient is contra indicated when you need to add Bute or other non-prescription pain medication. I'm concerned that long term use may cause ulcers.... which leads to even more junk to put in his feed etc. When does it end, or does it?
