View Full Version : Could someone look up at the tattoo of a horse rescued at NJ feedlot?

It looks like C4247. He is a solid bay gelding, no white, about 16 hands. Several people chipped in to rescue him from the killpen. He supposedly was a schoolhorse at a southern NJ riding stable. If someone could ID him, it would be greatly appreciated.

Is it possible to take another look at that tat? Thoroughbred tattoos have five numbers following a letter.
"C" would make him 10 years old.

Nothing matches a partial tattoo of C4247 on a plain bay.... can you check it again, maybe take some pics?

Will do. It may be C42471.

The only match that comes back for C424** is C42454 for Cash Current. 54 is not easily mistaken for 71, so I doubt that's him. See if you can get some photos, or at least narrow down for sure where the legible numbers are in the sequence. How positive are you on the letter??
What about a D model? Does he have a scar on his throatlatch?
Horse Name Hmbls Hope
Year of Birth 2000
Dam Name Murr's Hope
Color Dark Bay or Brown
No white markings. Indentation scar to left at throat latch. Cowlick slightly to left above eye level.

C42471 comes back to a dark bay or brown gelding named Grit and Poise. By Vying Victor out of Dogwood Poise, bred in British Columbia
He is listed as having a little white. If this checks out then you have a match:
White hairs to left at top of eye level. Left hind: white hairs on heel on inside. Median cowlick at eye level.

We photographed the tattoo and it looks like C42472, which makes him Captain Natural. He's in quarantine now - will be looking for a home soon. Seems like a nice boy, and was supposedly a school horse at a riding stable that closed.
