When my boyfriend lived in Ohio, he had trouble finding people who shared his enthusiasm for hockey. He moved to MN in August and has luckily found some like souls. Last night they went out to watch a hockey game, and I got the following text message:
"I love you more than hockey"
To which I responded with something to the effect of, "I love you more than hockey too! lol"
This morning I came in to school to do some work on my thesis. My boyfriend was online, so I asked him if he had fun with his new friends last night. I mentioned to him that the hockey message made me laugh, and he responded with:
"I was going to ask if you loved me more than horses.
Then I figured I shouldn't."
:lol: :lol: :lol: :lol: :lol:
To quote my dear friend Renn(/aissance)... smart boy. :lol:

I love my husband more than hockey, I guess. Unless the Sabres make it to the playoffs. Then it's negotiable. (:
Horses, though... I'd rather no one asked me that either. d;

Went to the Bruins/Sabres game at the Fleet Center Friday night. It was awesome. For me...its' a dead heat with horses & hockey.

Thanks for the info. I've always wanted to go to Australia. I'll just have to make sure when I do go, it's not during hockey season.

love this thread... horses v. hockey... it's a tough draw, depending on whether the caps are going to the playoffs this year. then we'll see!

I have a very specific feeling that I get when I'm watching low level jumpers careen madly around the ring while the trainer stands at the gate shouting "GALLOP FASTER!".
I get it a lot watching hockey, too. "WHA- HE'S PULLING THE OTHER GUY'S JERSEY OVER HIS HEAD! AND HOW HE'S HITTING HIM! WHAT!?!? WHY?!"
I'm just going to have to assume that all of you are crazy Canadians. :winkgrin:
(the bf's from MI, so might as well be from the Great White North)

No, we're not all Canadians (at least I'm not, and the other teams mentioned aren't Canadian...). :) I have the exact same reaction when I stand at the ingate of the low level jumpers, but with hockey it's different... not sure why, but it's just part of the game (lame excuse I know). It's just so... high energy intense. Especially overtime and shootouts... think of watching a grand prix jumpoff. :D

I must admit, until I went to a Caps game a few weeks ago, I would have not understood in the least, now after one live game, I am just waiting for my friends to have another 'spare' ticket, or even just buying a single, and going up with them. It was SO MUCH FUN.:D
Smart man not to ask the other question though!

I guess I can't see why it's considered so positive/popular to say that you love horses more than your significant other. I see threads here all the time about how frequently the husband/boyfriend *isn't* supportive, and gets jealous/annoyed by all the time and money spent on them. I've never used that line, and never been tempted to - I get completely different things from horses than I do from my boyfriend! I've never had any guy I've dated, even the one who was allergic to horses (who I was with for 5 years) complain even once.
My current sweetie came out to video me riding yesterday (we went out to lunch and to the beach afterward). He was going to ride, but his knee was acting up a bit. He came to my competition (http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2801/4044470449_6b40c3a63e.jpg) 3 weeks ago to take photos/video, and came riding (http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3485/4001747002_4ec1474492.jpg) with me a little over a month ago (his second time ever on a horse). He knows I love horses, and that they're important to me, why rub his face in it by making comparisons?
If you ever have a child, would you make a habit of telling him or her, "I love horses more than I love you, you'll never matter to me as much as they do."?:eek:

Well, to be fair... I didn't, and I won't. I just responded with laughter. You actually hit the nail on the head when you said that you get "completely different things from horses" than you do from your boyfriend.
Horses have been a part of who I am for pretty much my whole life. They've seen me through some really rough times and they're part of many of my most cherished memories.
For me, it's impossible to compare the value of horses to the value of a significant other. I can't even comprehend being with someone who asked me to make that judgment, much less someone who resented something that means so much to me!
If you ever have a child, would you make a habit of telling him or her, "I love horses more than I love you, you'll never matter to me as much as they do."?:eek:That's just silly. Where did anyone on this thread give you the idea that they'd say that to a SO, much less a child?
Continuing with your child example, I'd like to counter you with what I consider a more appropriate analogy- if you had two children, would you make a habit of comparing which one meant more to you?
Apples and oranges, Whisper. Apples and oranges. :)

I don't see how "I love PersonA more than PersonB" is more similar than "I love horses more than you.", just because of who it is directed at. If anything, I think it's a lot more mean to set up sibling rivalry the way you describe, than to set up another passion or hobby in that place.
Anyway, you didn't outright say that you love horses more than him, but it seemed rather strongly implied that the reason he was smart not to ask was that the answer would be no. *shrugs* I've seen other people say so flat out, in other threads, so it's just one of my pet peeves.

Spoken like a true Western NYer. :) I miss living up there sometimes, especially during hockey season. At any rate here in NoVA there is a bar called Jimmy's. They are all about Buffalo. They rent a bus for the Sabers games here in DC. Meet at the bar, eat wings, drink, bus to the game. Gotta love people from Buffalo.
Anyway, *most* of the time I love my hubby more than hockey. Horses.....well....it depends.:lol:

That's fabulous... I love that there are Buffalo ex-pats bars like that all over the country. I remember my parents finding one when we moved to NH for a few years so they could get wings and watch Bills games. d;
