View Full Version : OTTBs- Anyone know of any racetracks?

Nov. 4, 2009, 02:33 AM
I am looking for an eventing prospect, and I would like to get an OTTB. The only problem is that there aren't really any tracks in Montana and I dont know of any in Idaho, Washington or the surrounding areas. I have looked at Canter, and ReRun and several other thoroughbred adoptions but I havent really found anything. Plus I dont really feel comfortable not seeing/meeting the horse in person first. Or if you have know of a horse for sale that fits the bill I would love to know about 'em!

Here is a list of tracks. I know there is an active track in Colorado, Arapahoe, but that search led to this finding:

Call my friend Brett and he could probably have a few horses for you. http://www.st-amandbloodstock.net/Bio.htm

Note! please do not waste his time or anyone else who has prospects unless you're a serious buyer.

Good Luck!

Emerald Downs in WA

Portland Meadows in OR

There is at least one track in MT, A track in Evanston WY, one in CO

Les Bois Park in ID did not race this year, but there are still plenty of race horse people here who trained at Gem Co Fairgrounds and then shipped to tracks all over the west to run.

We ususally get several OTTBs every yr. They are easy to come by here.

Another vote for Joe at www.tbfriends.com Not only does he have access to TONS of ottb's, but he has access to tons of finished horses that just need new homes because of the economy. Let him know what you need and he'll keep an eye out for it. You may be able to get it for just the price of shipping.

I got mine from Finger Lakes in NY and had him shipped to Colorado. Bought sight unseen, but I am very happy with him!

The Finger Lakes Trainer's Listings have many high quality, sound, beautiful TBs looking to be rehomed. "Our" horses have been placed all over the country, for good reason!

What, exactly, are you looking for? We probably can find your perfect horse for you. Check out the horses available for adoption at the Purple Haze Center, located on the grounds of Finger Lakes Racetrack, and click on the Trainer's Listings horses available in the left margin. They're all Finger Lakes horses.

If you find a horse/s you're interested in, please feel free to contact a volunteer with the Trainer's Listings either by posting here or contacting me as a PM. We'll do what we can to help you out.

BTW, the volunteers with the Finger Lakes Trainer's Listings include Louise and Maunder, regular COTHers. We're all local and are dedicated to finding homes for these wonderful horses once they're ready to transition off the track.

It's not uncommon to find dumped Emerald Downs OTTBs at the Enumclaw auction for next to nothing- I got my OTTB mare from Cathy (fuglyblog) who plucked her out of the kill pen at Enumclaw. She is AWESOME!

I just started riding her after giving her time off to have a surprise foal (), but she is showing TONS of promise as an eventer. Sound, great mind, awesome movement, perfect temperament.

Good luck and be sure to keep us all posted on what you find!

Edited to add: Cathy also posts on here as catknsn. You can shoot her a PM, but she's in the process of moving, so she might take a day or two to get back to you!
