My horse is not an eventer, but he needs studs on the hinds for traction. I'm looking for the smallest to get and where to purchase?? I know of BOB.

There are some great articles on stud use. Max Corcoran is an expert on this. She had a great article a while ago in Practical Horseman but I ran a search and couldn't find it.
Here's an Equisearch article I found:

Oh look what I just found:

This looked very interesting in a quick glance - but I did get a popup notice on this site so be careful.

There should also be a thread on this within this forum - did you find anything?

I know that stud use is directly related to the footing your horse will be working over. Mud, sand, grass all make a difference as to what size you will want to use, as well as the type. Size doesn't matter sometimes - for instance, a grass tip is more effective than a road stud on turf. A road stud is nearly useless in deep mud. Etc.

Hope that helps!

Thank you. I guess I'll need to read up more on the type he needs. He'll be in sand/stonedust arena, grass, some mud but not a lot and that's about it.

There is also a thread or two on studs in the Eventers FAQ thread that is stickied at the top of the forum.

The smallest ones are often called "road studs" as you can see on the link that retread posted. Is that website by Malcolm Kelley, anyone know?
