So has anyone purchased this new Pikuer show coat "ghia" and if so, do you like it. It's on the expensive - $599.99, but supposedly it can be washed and dried and repels water? Doesn't wrinkle? Almost too good to be true. Daughter tried it on and loved it. Also if you do own it, do you think the material is something that can be altered? thanks

not sure if this makes sense, cause I have no clue, but here is what it says on the Smartpak website: 65% polyamide, 25% elasthane, 10% polyurethane

GP makes one like this, I tried it on, the only thing I didn't like was the noise it made as you walked...

this one didn't make noise, it wasn't like wearing a plastic raincoat either! It was stretchy and had a coolmax like lining in it (the netting), hard to explain.

I agree, it's very comfortable and Pikeur stuff is usually very reliable in terms of quality... however, the styling makes it appropriate only for the jumper ring, IMO.

If you are going to splurge, I highly recommend buying through Amira Equi... they have them for $413 right now.

Thanks for the link, not sure what the savings would end up being if purchased through them. With shipping and everything. While it could pass for the Eq ring, def for the Jumpers, which is where we are right now!

Typically I have found Amira's shipping charges to be less than Dover's! And they are normally *very* fast - I have my stuff in about 3 days. Great service.

That said, I wouldn't wear that coat in the eq, but it's beautiful for the jumpers.

Honestly, if you want a jacket with the same material, custom colours, tonnes of sizes and pay way less (Canadian!) go to http://hay-ward.com/ . Tell them that "Sarah Kim" sent you and I can probably get you a 10% discount on top of the already cheap price. And they don't take long to make!

I would assume that similar to the Grand Prix coat, the material is Schoeller/soft shell. I have the GP coat and I absolutely LOVE it! It's cool in hot weather, stretchy, doesn't make any weird noises when I walk (or ride or do anything else), and is water repellant. Even better, I wadded it up in my trunk at the end of a particularly wet show last year and forgot about it for a week or two. When I remembered I pulled it out and hung it up and it looked normal again almost immediately. My other hunt coats are jealous because this is the only one I wear now :)

I'm not sure if it can be easily altered or not.....I would assume so, but I don't know how the stretchy qualiy of the fabric would impact that.

I tried on the GP coat (with the zipper on the inside and the buttons over the zipper.) It did not have the lining. Fit perfectly!!

I am holding out until I can find the new style that is as cool as possible for hot weather riding ---- If you have a GP, is it cool for warm weather or is the Pikeur with the lining cooler?

Thanks for any input-

The fabric on the Pikeur Ghia doesn't look great for a long period of time. I got rid of mine after a year. It didn't look nice. I bought a Animo jacket and it is great and it costed the same as Pikeur. You can look at the animo jackets at TheEquestrianStoreNi.com

How were you washing it? Daughters coat has probably clocked in 25+ week long shows, wearing at least 2 days at these shows and still looks like it did the day we got it. Always washed with woolite, and we hang to dry it. We have a front loader so maybe that made the difference. But it still looks great and well worth the money.
