There is a member of the VAHorses email list group (group link in my sig) who is trying to find a safe spot to transfer a horse from the shipper's trailer into hers. Rather than having to do this in a highway rest area (assuming any are still open in VA right now) or store parking lot, she's hoping to find a safer, quiet spot.

The current projected date for the trailer transfer is Nov. 9th.

Here is an excerpt from her post:

"Is there anyone with a farm in the area that would allow me to meet the shipper there? I would simply be off loading him from the shippers trailer and then onto mine. I would much rather be able to safely off load him at a farm rather then a public parking lot or rest area. He is very quiet and would unload in those places but I would rather avoid it."

If anyone here would like to help her out or has any suggestions, please PM me, and I will pass along your message to her or put you in touch with her directly.

Thanks!

It would depend on which roads they are travelling. A little more information on the route would help.

I don't know the actual route, but the shipper was originally going to meet the horseowner in Shipman, VA, which is about an hour south of C-ville and very close to Rt. 29. So it looks like the shipper will be coming up from the south on 29. Horseowner lives on the Eastern Shore, so will be coming from the east, most likely via I-64.

Thanks! I will see if I can get more specific info on the route.

They could try meeting at Keswick which is just east of Charlottesville or The Barracks which is on the northwest side. Just south of 64 where route 15 crosses there is a huge industrial park where you could probably find a quiet corner.

Thanks Elghund; I was thinking Keswick too. I will pass your suggestions on to her - much appreciated!

From 64, go slightly north of C'ville and get off at the Shadwell exit. Turn onto Route 250 east. There's a hotel that has a huge parking lot below it and just off the road. The Keswick horse show uses it to park horse trailers..... it's usually empty or about empty.
