Does anyone have any feedback on Numero Uno or Ustinov offspring? ...Size, temperment, tendencies? I'd appreciate any experiences.
Many Thanks

I have a 2yo Numero Uno colt out of a Lux Z x Concorde mare. He is wonderful. Beautifully put together, VERY mellow on the ground, sweet, good mover, athletic, and BIG. I sticked him at 16.1h a couple months after he turned two. My other 2yo colt is 15.1h. I think this one will turn out to be very nice. He got 30 days backing and has an engine under saddle but not hot. Now turned back out until next year. I LOVE my Numero Uno. I also saw their filly by him that year and pics of another colt by him from the same farm. Seems consistent with my n=3. :)

Ah, Thank you for that....May I ask how big your mare is? Lux Z/ Concorde, that is an athletic combination; she must be a blast to ride/jump!:)
Your 2 year old sounds lovely, a very fun baby to bring along. I hope I'll be as fortunate! Do you happen to have any pictures online?

I bought my colt as a foal. The mare is about 16h or so I think, not sure. She isn't huge if memory serves. There is a weanling pic on my website, need to get some new ones. I can email you a couple of him as a yearling, don't have any 2yo pics to share yet. PM me your email addy if you like. He is really nice.

We have a weanling Numero Uno colt, born in May, out of a Hanoverian mare. He's a big boy, almost 14 hands, very sweet, mellow, super well put together, beautiful neck and shoulder, great bone. He's really easy to have in the barn, loves attention, grooming etc. I can't wait for him to grow up.

I have seen more Numero Uno offspring (stands to reason as he is older) and he definitely stamps them with an expressive face as well as refining them (especially the Nimmerdor x Erdballxx mare in both crosses). I would say that he also tends to through an average to smaller size to his foals.

A 'big Thank You guys' is in order. Those pictures were very helpful, with that pretty Lux mare as a control. What nice babies she puts out!
buschkin, I would love to see your boy as a yearling and will send you my info.
Mikali, from what I've read and seen so far I agree with you, he can throw a larger type as the mare might indicate, but he tends to put out the 16-16.1 h. horse.I wonder what Peter Wylde's Ustinov foal looks like now. It'll be fun to see that one get started. (But I digress).
I guess I'm still torn between the two. Numero Uno makes more sense because, as mikali points out, he's older, has more babies on the ground, and his attitude and performance with Marco K. is well recorded. If there was just MORE of him for my mare, I wouldn't hesitate. Sigh...it's amazing how draining this process is...

LWB, I thought you might enjoy gathering as much info about the sires as possible so here are the links to some more information from KWPNstallions... What are the bloodlines of your mare? If you know the damline, perhaps it might help you pick the strongest candidate for her.

I am not sure about the size thing. In my n=1 he is huge. At 2yo+ couple months I sticked him at 16.1h, and I really don't remember the mare being that big. My other colt, exactly the same age, was 15.1h same day. But that mare is 15.3h. I had excellent intentions of getting new pics of both boys this week but that didn't exactly pan out. :) Maybe next week. They are both much more mature now, developing necks and some muscle etc. I would not hesitate to buy or breed a Numero Uno again after having this colt. He is wonderful so far. :)

Also, might get more answers in the Breeding forum...

My mare's pedigree is up at www.sporthorse-data.com/d?z=VCHXft&d=vesche
She was bought as a potential a/o jumper (at minimum, the lows). She was
4 1/2 when I brought her over...super attitude, balanced, game and generous. She is big barreled but short at 15.3, still wears a size 80 blanket, has a very big step.
And thank you for reminding me about the Breeder's Forum...this is my first contact/post with you guys and I guess I need to find my way around!
The input and help you are giving is much appreciated. I am trying to go back into the Landgraf before I try going back into the French/top part of this pedigree. What do you think?

The Landgraf lines are known to sometimes throw weak stifles (http://www.chronicleforums.com/Forum/showthread.php?t=204348&highlight=landgraf+stifles) so you may not want to linebreed to him. Definitely come over the breeding forum and ask this again. You'll get more responses :) I would look into other Jalisco B sons like Royal Star by Quick Star and perhaps linebreed to him. The C-line holsteiner stallions are always good jumper crosses

Yes, you're right. I have heard of the weak stifles. There's always something to watch out for isn't there...I will crosspost over to the Breeder's Forum, hopefully first thing tomorrow. The C line is always an attractive alternative, the Quickstar not as much for me, but I like your ideas. You guys are so generous to help me brainstorm. I look forward to posting on the appropriate Forum tomorrow.

No problem and I'll keep an eye out of that post. There are plenty of awesome stallions, but it'll help to know if your mare a) has been bred before and if b) she has/has not conceived with frozen (or is a candidate) or c) if she "needs" fresh cooled semen. The breeding forum will also want good conformation pictures of the mare and her full pedigree. :)

I also have a spuer nice Cassini II colt, out of a smaller mare. He is much smaller than the Numero Uno colt, but is very athletic and pretty. My mare is only 15.3h, too, but probably not as big bodied as yours it doesn't sound like. That is one C-line option for you to consider. I would try for the C line if you want to improve size and not go back to the French if you are worried about rideability. Lots of "C"s to choose from. Good luck! :)
