Does anyone feed this? I was talking to my local feed mill today and telling them how I have several horses sensitive to soy and have been looking for the ever elusive 'non soy ration balancer'. So, the guy said he was thinking he could replace soybean meal with cotton seed meal in his vitamin/mineral/protein supp he makes (ration balancer). He said he needed to talk to one of his 'guys' in Lexington and get his take on it. Would there be any issues with feeding cotton seed meal?

We used to feed cotten seed meal in the Spring to make the horses shed out faster. There was one horse that was too sensitive to it and he almost went bald. I don't think that it would be a good choice in the winter. ;)

Anyone else? I know fed in high amounts there is a toxic quality to it.

What else would be good to replace the soybean meal with for protein in this product? So, maybe I can tell my feedstore guy. I'm wondering about sunflower meal, linseed meal, etc.

I don't know about horses, but I just came from a cattle clinic where they suggested it be fed to cattle as a protein supplement.

My neighbor is a diary farmer and he feeds whole cotton seeds to the cows. I don't know anything about it other than that. Sorry.
