I promise this is driving related, if only tangentially!

Yesterday I measured my three main driving horses in planning the cart Sue Ahonen is building for me. To my delight, I discovered that Fairy Luna has grown nearly 2 inches!

It's been 30 months since she arrived here starved, battered and desperate. By her teeth she was about 7 years old. At that time the vet and I measured her at 13h3". After she had the surprise foal I measured her again -- trying to figure out how tall the filly might grow. Again, 13h3".

No real reason to repeat the measurement till yesterday. Used the same stick I've always used, and got 14h1". Was mildly astonished, checked the stick over, tested its measurements against a steel rule, measured again. Same result.

So I guess that improved nutrition, improved hoof shape, improved topline and an evident delight in living have added up to an unexpected gain in height. And I'm quite certain that working in harness has helped a great deal, as I have seen it develop topline in all of my driving horses.

Just felt like sharing. Hope you don't mind!

What a great story. I remember when she came to you and there were so many gains each day. Even naming her was aforum thread.

arh 7 is the last year in which a horse grows well normally its the circumfrance that adds a couple of inches as she was about 7 when you got her then judging by that i reckon shes was younger more like 5/6 this would explain the growth in her plus the good living
if a horse is so far underweight then once the top line and all the little pockets have been correctly filled in it can make a horse taller when a horse is underweight there no top line as they this shape /\ sort off so the real horse has yet to appear and having no schoulers or chest - now she been worked and is in full fitness and weight she has bloomed

and where a re the new photos of my pink girls and didnt i wlays say shes be a good girl for you and so will her baby i bet the baby will catch up with her mum and you will have a nice matching pair to drive lol

That's really great. How rewarding to take one in desperate need and have it turn out so wonderfully!
