If that's the case I'll be a little bitter since I ordered mine last year. :)

Lady in our barn just purchased a new saddle 17 inch short flap that the rep had for 3100. Same saddle went for 4000. last year. Several were purchased at our barn. Rep also threw in leathers. They might come with new purchase, however I bought a used one and it did not come with leathers.
I think she got a deal. It's beautiful.....I'm just a bit jealous.;)

I just had our antares rep out a few weeks ago to fit my horse for a saddle, the prices are definitely not any cheaper than they were a few years ago, at least the prices he gave me. They do have the spooner which is a cheaper model.. maybe they are doing another mass produced saddle for cheaper? v:)

I think it might be something that individual reps are doing. I had called about a used saddle and he offered to sell me a brand new custom one for about 3100 or 3000 (I can't remember exactly what it was.) but that was with me just ordering it. He was not going to come out to my barn and fit my daughter. It wasn't a big deal as I knew exactly what she needed but we ended up finding a used saddle in the specs I was looking for so I didn't do it.

I'm guessing that many aren't doing that well right now and are cutting their commissions to get sales.

I know that the used saddle market has fallen a lot in the last year or so. Saddles that used to be $3000 or more used are now in the $2500 range and often times you can find one around $2000 depending on who has it for sale. I'm talking about Antares, Devoucoux, Butets etc.

Smartpak (and presumably others) have that Spooner and the Hampton models which are not custom but mass produced ie. rather than having rep come and fit you/horse etc which is part of the price that is factored in. A few people at my barn got new Devacoux's; 2 others have Antares.. I rode in one of the Antares - loved it; sat in Devacoux and Antares at WIHS and much preferred the Antares over the Devacoux... I'm hankering for a new saddle - so I the Spooner or Hampton are as comfy as the ones I've ridden/sat in and fit beast I would be thrilled...

I just recently purchased a very lightly used, full calf leather Antares off the CWD website for just over $2000. There is a small scuff on the back of the cantle but my nameplate covers it. The saddle is GORGEOUS and I think I got a really, really good deal on it.

Thanks for the info...I have a friend shopping for an Antares now. I'll pass this along and tell her to get busy.

In July I paid $3000 cdn for my Spooner. I ordered it a few months before and took a while to come because I needed a shorter flap. I didn't even bother looking at customs because this one felt great to me, and fit my horse as well as any custom would.

Yep, word is that Antares will be lowering their prices soon and not doing as much "custom" work and selling out of SmartPak vs. reps making barn visits/sales.....

Just a rumor, but it was directly from someone who works there ;)

Now will they be lowering prices on saddles only or all products? I've had my eye on a couple of accessories for my saddle :P

^^^I only heard about saddles being lowered in $$$ and more "off the rack" than custom per se......as far as accessories, no idea about that

Not really, the Smartpak saddles (and the matching leathers) are the mass produced ones, which are substantially cheaper than their custom saddles. All the bridles and other accessories shown on Smartpak's website are the same price as buying directly from Antares.

My Antares rep is running a special (they all are I think) offering stock sized saddles (but of custom quality) at lower prices.

I think it is just a promotion versus a new approach but again I don't know.

If you and your horse are pretty middle of the road in terms of fit this could be the way to go or if you know exactly what you need fit wise you can order it custom built.

You get Antares quality and comfort for less if you don't need a saddle fitting.
