I am about to have my horse body clipped.
He has a great coat when it is grown out, but when its clipped it becomes, as everyone knows, a little duller.
Normally I just drown my horse in conditioner, let it sit, at then rinse it off. I also take diluted conditioner water and sponge it over his body after baths. And the usual curry, stiff brush, soft brush.
I was wondering if anyone had any other tips/tricks to help get the shine back in the clipped coat quickly?
Thanks Guys

I'm a big believer in flax seed and that seems to help with coats over the long term (as well as starting with a routinely well groomed horse). For immediate help, I use Healthy Hair Care Moisturizer. I already have a spray bottle mix of 3 parts HHCM, 1 part Lazer Sheen, 1 part Baby Oil and rest water that I use as part of my grooming regime. After I body-clip or whenever I feel a horse is in need of some extra care, I mix a bucket up of warm water and a couple ounces of HHCM and soak the horses with it, like a hot oil treatment. Leave in.
I also discovered a new product, a bit more expensive, by Epona. It's an oatmeal rinse that leaves the coats feeling SO nice, soft and shiny.

Curry, curry, curry. Rub rag, rub rag, rub rag. Hand rub, hand rub, hand rub. Repeat, repeat, repeat.

My horse is way more shiny when clipped than with his winter coat, but then again he grows enough for 3 horses.....I find the clip job had some to do with it as well as having the horse very very very clean for the clip job. I am a little slow with my body clipping but almost every horse I have done has looked GREAT and shiny afterwards. Only 2 have not, and that was due to still being very very dirty even after 2 baths! And these are all horses at different barns/diets/breeds.

My trainer always had us do a baby oil rinse after clipping. We sponge on warm water with baby oil in it. Let it sit for a few minutes and then towel dry. Lots of elbow grease by rubbing with your hands and a towel after clipped brings the oil to the surface.

Another vote for flaxseed, which we call linseed over here. I feed micronised ground linseed and most of my horses get a couple of big handfuls per day. When the sun is shining (not often up here!) the horses absolutely gleam, even when fully clipped :-)
