I'm looking for a new cooler for my horse. He's a big boy who wears a size 82 or 84 blanket. There are plenty of coolers that fit him, but I want one with the neck piece on it, as that's where he sweats a lot. Last year I bought a weatherbeeta cooler in oversize and the neck piece isn't big enough to wrap around his neck - I can barely get it closed using the velcro. I see Schneider's has some coolers with neck pieces, and Weatherbeeta makes one that comes in actual sizes (82, 84) instead of just horse size or oversize. Does anybody have a cooler that fits a horse with a big neck?

No, but you can pretty much disqualify the Schneider's Poly-Tech cooler. I LOFF mine, but I also own a short-necked horse, and the neck on this cooler is about the right size for my horse.

If you are not concerned about fashion, a cheap and easy solution would be to keep the cooler you have and buy a wool blanket or cheap wool quarter sheet to clamp around your horse's neck. Or if you're into the fleece cooler thing, which I am not, get thee to the fabric store and buy the cheapest remnant of fleece you can find.

Or if you're not quite that ghetto, get a seamstress to custom sew a neck flap onto your existing cooler. That won't be dirt cheap, but it'll be cheaper than buying a new cooler.

I've got this cooler (see: http://www.sstack.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=6661&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=91&iSubCat=97&iProductID=6661) from SS Tack. It's their wool blend one. My boy is an honest 84" (but an 82" in SS blankets ) and this fits him fine. He's a big boy... but more then anything else, he's long. He's only 16h :).

Anyways, this one works great for him. It gaps at the front, where the closures are for the neck piece. So I use on of those electrical clips, like this (see: http://www.sstack.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemID=1116&itemType=PRODUCT&iMainCat=91&iSubCat=99&iProductID=1116) to draw the neck area tighter.

Otherwise, I second what jn4jenny stated. I've often thrown another cooler/square of fabric over just the neck and used one of those aforementioned clamps to keep everything in place. Works okay when horse is kept in a stall and isn't moving a whole lot.
