Hello group, I am on my *umpteenth* pair of work boots and need some opinions. Fashion is not at all important. I need boots that i can pull on to bathe a horse and wash down the kennels with. Waterproof is very important! The Joulles boots are super cute, but I have found that they just do not hold up around the ankles (they crack really bad). Any ideas?

Do they need to come over the ankles? LL Bean makes some really awesome waterproof boots in both slip-on and lace up varieties, both insulated and not. The slip-ons come in both "shoe" type and "boot" type depending on whether you need ankle coverage.

My dad and my uncle were always big fans of the "fireman" boots. You have your regular shoes on, slip them in and they have metal buckles. Not sure where they got them, maybe farm n fleet, but for 30+ years there was always a pair by the door to the kennels. Fashion CANNOT be an issue of course.

Good quality rubber boots should last you forever. Not the cute kind that are made in China....good quality.

I am biased but these are the best ever!

I buy mine slightly larger than I normally would and use different insoles depending upon the weather plus you can add thicker socks that way too for when it gets bitter out.

The best $30 I have ever spent:

They are comfy to wear all day and you can work or ride in them. Two drawbacks are that they don't breathe and may not offer a lot of protection if you get stepped on. Overall though I LOVE these boots.

Love my 'Hunter Wellies'
Not cheap, but super comfy and wear very well.

I love my Muck Boots - I have the "Chore" boot style. I wear them year around. Are a little warm in the summer, but not unbearable. In the winter, I just toss in an instant foot warmer thing and they are perfect. :)

I second the Muck brand boots. They have a version with reinforced (but not steel) toes for working around hooved critters.

*artic.* around 100 bucks. great for cold weather, great traction. perfect for outdoor/ stable-ranch but maybe too hot for indoor kennel use.so comfy, totally h2o proof. i cannot live w/out mine. other models from aforementioned company has been disappointing in certain ways.

I've tried just about all of them over the years and like the Muck Boots best. I've worn them for everything from barn cleaning to cadaver dog training in the woods to grizzly bear videoing in Canada. Same pair. Still in great shape 4 years later.

Another vote for the Muck Boot "Chore" boot. Tough, warm, waterproof.

Yet another vote for Muck Boots. I've used them in the barn, the kennel, when running retriever hunting tests (good test for being waterproof when standing in a mucky swamp!) and even when showing my Labradors outdoors (Labs are often shown outdoors, even in inclement weather). I can't say enough good things about Muck Boots. I find they give good support and hold up well. They are amazingly warm in the colder months too. With straight up rubber boots my feet got quite chilled. The Muck Boots keep my feet at a nice temperature.

Other than the fact that they are a little bit slippery, I can't say enough good about Muck boots. I have the "Tack" model and SO has the "Arctic". His are definitely warmer but mine are always plenty warm, I just add heavier socks. We have the same size feet though, and if his are sitting here and I am heading outside and its -20 or more, I grab his. HIs are way too warm to wear in the warmer months, mine can be worn just fine.

I vote LL Bean duck shoes - slip on ~ step into and or lace up in the hunting section sometimes - just google LL bean -- I could not get through a day without them --worn them for years !!!!! Clean up is very quick and simple ~ they can be re-treaded too after 15 years if they really need it LOL!
