They just finished the 3rd race at Belmont and so far we've seen ....
The 1st race ($35k claimers) taken by Super Shape (ARG) at 6 1/2 Furlongs and he tied the track record at 1:14.46.
The 3rd race ($46k allowance) taken by Birdrun at 1 1/16 miles and he broke the track record at 1:39.1
Evidently Maverick has the need for speed (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OlkInNZ7xis)!

The race chart for race 3 with Birdrun pegs the final time at 1:39.38 (http://drf.com/drfPDFChartRacesIndexAction.do?TRK=BEL&CTY=USA&DATE=20091021&RN=3) which is a new track record. He was toting 117-lbs for the win and was 8 1/4 lengths ahead of the field.
And yes Birdrun (FL) is sired by Birdstone; dam was Run Like Martha. Bred by Arthur Appleton and owned by Oxbow Racing LLC (http://www.ntra.com/stats_bios.aspx?id=29778) and trained by Bill Mott

To say Belmont Park's main track was playing fast on Wednesday would be an understatement as one track record was broken and another was tied, right down to the hundredth of a second.
Birdrun, a 3-year-old son of Birdstone, won a first-level allowance race by 8 1/4 lengths while covering 1 1/16 miles in 1:39.38. That eclipsed the mark of 1:39.51 set by Rock and Roll in 1998. Birdrun, like Rock and Roll, is trained by Bill Mott. Birdrun's previous victory came in an off-the-turf $35,000 claiming race at Saratoga.
Birdrun's win on Wednesday came an hour after Super Shape won a $35,000 claiming race by 2 3/4 lengths, running 6 1/2 furlongs in 1:14.46. That is the exact same time run by Bear Fan on June 5, 2004.
Wednesday was the first day the main track was labeled fast since heavy rains inundated the area last week.
