Michael Barisone versus Lendon Gray: which would you choose for a clinic?

Hello-

I may have the opportunity to ride in a clinic with either Michael Barisone or Lendon Gray and I was wondering - which one would you choose? (not that either are bad options :))

Flip a coin. No way to choose logically. Both have a great deal of knowledge and are wonderful teachers.

Some people might choose Barisone because of more recent competition at the top levels - others might choose Lendon Gray because of her extensive involvement in teaching young people. At the same time, Mike can teach kids very well, and Gray certainly knows a great deal about competition.

They are both passionate, knowledgeable, experienced, great communicators, and incredibly generous with their knowledge. And I reckon either of them could teach a cow to piaffe, LOL.

What level do you ride?

What is the breed of the horse?

Horse green or schoolmaster?

How do you deal with criticism?

Would you be frustrated if the clinician spent time talking to auditors?

I just attended a clinic with Lendon a couple of weeks ago. No experience with Mr. Barisone, but Lendon is super!

I've audited one of Lendon's clinics and she was awesome - TOUGH, but absolutely incredible. I so wish that I would have had the money to take my horse at the time, because I think she could have taught us so much. You should probably have a somewhat thick skin and make sure to LISTEN to her. She didn't seem thrilled with people who kept making the same mistakes over and over after she'd told them a time or two. BUT, she was very patient with the horses and very patient with the riders who really tried and who didn't go in there thinking that they were "all that."

I don't know anything about Mr. Barisone's clinics, and he's probably super, but given the choice, I'd choose Lendon hands down.

Myself? I'd choose Michael Barisone. Fabulous, brilliant, incredible knowledge of classical dressage, been taught by the best, competed extensively and recently at the top, and an expert at dealing with hot, sensitive horses, brilliant sense of humor, great speaker, passionate, energetic, gets very involved and excited about what can be.

Does it mean I think Lendon's not as good? Hardly. They both have a great deal to offer.

Yep I am prejudiced he holds clinics here (next one is November 21st and 22nd at Riverside Equestrian in Bluemont VA) and I ride with him every chance I get. He is brilliant with both people and horses.

I was at a clinic first hand at Riverside last time Michael was there, and it was an amazing experience. Michael is very knowledgeable and is very proficient with his teachings. His career speaks for itself, and if you ride dressage this is the way to go!

They're both amazing and both get my vote. Best of luck in your decision!
