Well, I'm back after an injury that has kept me from being able to type; or use my left arm at all actualy.

I wish I could explain what happened, but in truth I have NO IDEA!! Silly little mare was in heat, I went to halter her and she bolted away, no biggy just drop the rope right? Well, apparently the universe thought that would be too simple. Some how the rope bounced up and wrapped around my left wrist and I was yanked off my feet and whipped about 20 ft by my arm, then hit the ground; hard.

For 2 days I couldn't move my fingers at all. After being reffered to the Orthopedist I was informed I damaged the nerve bunch under my arm pit that controls the arm and hand. Sigh. So, I start physical therapy this week and have been informed it may take nearly 4 months to regain total use of it.

The worst part about it? The embarassment!! LOL I rode 2 young Stallions that morning who felt like kicking up their heels a bit, and it's the normaly quiet soft mare that puts me on the injured list...sigh; So wrap me in Bubble wrap would ya guys?

Ouch! That royally sucks. At least its winter so perhaps a time for less riding.

Loads of jingles heading your way!

wrap me up, too!!

went on a 25-mile backpacking trip a couple weeks ago and my ankles haven't been the same since... thankfully it helps me keep my heels down when i ride because my tendons feel incredibly weird whenever i flex my toes down!

sigh. i hate being broken!

LOL, Maybe I should work on damage some of my students ankles....hehehehe

Well, I am feeling better today, my arm can now lift to a 90degree angle and my hand isn't numb and I can close my fingers. Back to work for me tomorrow; blessedly one of my students is gonna play assistant and instead of me paying her she is considering it all free lessonss. I don't think she realizes what she is getting into yet!!! LOL

I hear you just getting over my second broken bone this year! Then yesterday I tripped over a baby gate and as I sat there yelling insanities I was just praying when I went to get up all bones were in place (thankfully they were). Hope you get better soon!

wingedmare, I have my left arm taped to my ribcage right now because I have an both and acute and a chronic tear in my rotator cuff. I feel your pain....

...but only with my right arm because the left one is numb.

I do somewhat know what caused the acute tear but am very embarrassed to share. Let's just leave it as my DH describes it..."You wrestle 1000 pound animals all day, heave children around and you hurt yourself HOW?!?!?"

Pass the bubblewrap please?

Bubblewrap might not be the answer -- after all, my sister was trailering a couple weeks ago, about 50 feet behind a truck carrying rolls of bubblewrap........one of which, of course, came off and crunched the front end of her lovely new truck.

We're still laughing at the irony of it all.

P.S. No horses were in the trailer (thank goodness!) and no one was even slightly injured :D

EEEW Brachial Plexus injuries SUCK. S U C K SUCK. Ask me how I know this.

Jingles for your poor nerves.

"You wrestle 1000 pound animals all day, heave children around and you hurt yourself HOW?!?!?"
LOL. Could be a direct quote from Dr Mr Grataan. I WISH I could have said "oh yes I got stomped by a bull while i was doing this crazy daring surgery to save a baby cow's life" but oh no, when people ask about the huge scars on my palpating arm it's "I tripped over my husband's flip flops which were sitting on the freshly powerwashed deck, fell towards my favorite front porch rocker and did a heroic lunge away from the chair in order to 'save' it, nearly squished the amazed cat, fell backwards OFF the porch, ripped my favorite pants and shattered my radius"

I've been off 3 weeks after badly spraining my calf dancing (or rather, *not* dancing) at a wedding. Had just taken my shoes off, walked around the table, and felt a "pop".

sigh. At least I can mostly walk now. At least another week before I'll be able to ride without fear of re-injury. Glad my horse isn't as accident-prone.<knocks on wood>

Yeah! Feeling your arm is a good thing!

I fell off on my bum last week as well - and let me tell you - 50 (something) yr olds don't bounce well (and what a long way down). Still feeling it.......

Thanks for the update!

Well, it's official I DO need to be wrapped up!

Since I am getting use back in my arm it means it's time for me to get back to work and make my moneys, right? So, I started back to training this past tuesday. The two studs are green and so arn't workin on the bridle yet, hense my arm will be fine.....Welllllll, this morning I worked the mare who hurt me and she was fantastic, then I grab the 3yo stud. My boss INSISTS I ride in the western tack today. Says me, but we have only worked Mac in the hunt tack up till now, I'm fine in that. But, boss is the boss....

Stud colt is a perfect angel during all my prep work, we tack him up and I notice he seem uncomfortable even though the saddle seemed to fit well. So, instead of putting my foot down and saying no, I'm riding him in the hunt tack I succumbed to my boss.

My foot goes in the stirrup, swing my leg over and all H*ll breaks loose!! My soft sweet stud turns bronc on me. I can't get my right foot in the stirrup, and after two laps bucking around the round pen I decide to swing off (to the right of course so salvage my arm); I however have not come off in going on 10 years and seeming have forgotten about that thing called "momentum" My feet touch the ground, but my booty just keeps on going SLAM!! not onto the nice soft desert noooooo onto the bottom rail of the round pen gate. And so now, here I sit typing while sitting on an ice pack.

The story does have a happy ending though; being the gentleman he is the stud comes back over and waits beside me. I dust off, swap him back to his hunt tack, mount up and off he goes being a perfect angel.

Moral of the story? There are a few
1: Bubble wrap jods would rock!!
2: Trust your instincts.
3: Just cause you arn't completly comfortable with your new boss, if you know you are right put your foot down!

I am now sitting with my head hanging waiting for the WTH were you thinking remarks... ;)
