View Full Version : Aliens stole my flymask....

During the summer, Pixie kept losing her flymask (probably on purpose, she is smart enough to figure out how to get it off). The last time, I just could not find it, searched the whole pasture. OK, the horse made her opinion clear: no flymask.

Yesterday, Pixie was standing in her run-in and right in front of her feet is.....the missing flymask, standing upright with the "ears" up, just like someone placed it there. Flymask has not been seen in 4 months and it just suddenly reappears.

Possible explanations: Gnomes? Aliens? A wormhole in the pasture that sucks in flymasks and then randomly spits them out again, like the analogous one in my dryer that eats my socks? Is the flymask's temporal phase out of sync with the rest of the pasture? I'm perplexed.....

Your horse found it and was playing with it.. carried it in and dropped it at her feet.

I swear I'm going to duct tape the fly masks on my 4 next summer.
Mine, too, have made their opinions known. I usually find the missing fly mask a week later (or longer) with the velcro strap still closed. Doesn't matter if it a fancy one with long nose and ears or a cheapie one gotten off the internet.

My mare liked to flirt with the geldings in the next pasture over. She's a bit of a hussy, so she also let them "undress" her. After spending 20ish minutes every day for a week walking through her pasture to find it, I gave up. She doesn't wear a flymask anymore.

One of our guys does this with his fly sheet. Finally found it the other day. Guess he wants to go naked.

Of course: aliens. No question. I bet they have a whole bunch left in the mothership.

Hizzhonor the (Not Spoiled Arabian) Hated fly masks. He would devote all his time to getting it off. I bought one with the soft mesh ear covers...he got it off and ATE it...Ok Ok I get it...no more flymasks...
As for losing things...somewhere in my (not quite 2 acres) pasture is a blanket he got off while out. Years ago. Never found it..I suspect aliens..

Hmmmm, I never thought of "foreplay" as an explanation for the missing flymask. Pixie does the same thing with Gus, the gelding in the neighboring pasture. Gus is a studdy gelding unaware that he's missing two crucial parts, so it's not just flirting, it's well into in the realm of x-rated, don't let the kids see:eek: debauchery.

I have also given up. No more flymasks.

Let me know if you ever find where it went. One of mine was on night turn-out this summer. every night he went out with his fly mask on. Every morning he came back without it. I wasn't in his pasture; it wasn't in the adjoining pastures. It wasn't even on the property next door with the mules. I gave up rather quickly as this got expensive quickly. He either ate them or dug a hole. He's also rough on blankets.

Your flymask was with my missing hoof pick all summer - and like magic after hunting for it for weeks, it suddenly reappeared on the rolling cart that I have cleaned no less than once a month since May. How did it get there? It was my favorite hoof pick too, so glad it was used somewhere and then brought home. Must be aliens..

Hah! At least the Aliens returned your flymask.

I'm convinced that my mini-mare has paid the squirrels to sequester her flymasks into the forest, bury them deep; and the masks are never heard from again.

I'm just sayin';)

Congrats on finding the artifact (err, flymask).

Halters - I buy the nice break-a-way halters and out of 12 I have 2 in the barn. A month ago I went and found the halters in the pasture. I proudly hung them all up in the barn to show my hubby how nice they look and to prove I really did have a halter for every horse. Slowly as I turn horses out I like certain individuals to have a halter on for easy catching and again I am down to 2.

I honestly get tired of making halters out of lead ropes and leading horses by the chin. Its BS time, so time to go halter hunting. Its actually a game the kids play. :)

Oh and the whole ear thing on the fly masks are just wrong. We are allowed to have the ones that cover the face, but if you put ears on them guaranteed they get picked on for the rest of the day until they rip if off the poor kids head.

Are you noticing a sudden plethora of coathangers or other everyday objects arond the house of barn?

It's a known fact that clothes dryers transform socks into surplus coathangers, so maybe that's what's going on with you.

There's your answer. It happens in our pastures too. The mask goes out of phase for a few days to weeks, then falls back in sync with the pasture and reappears. I keep hoping Jack will reappear with them, but that never happens. I'd even settle for Cam.

I believe this also occurs with bell boots and horseshoes, but not EZ boots.

I found my favorite rubber curry that has been missing all summer in the run-in in the barn yesterday.

Do you think Aliens have some sort of seasonal migration? Doesn't it seem like we all go through these bizarre appearances and disappearances seasonally?

I could just blame the ponies...

I suspect that aliens from different planets have an agreement as to when they mine your pastures and barn aisles.

I have the opposite. One of my horses will not go out in the summer without his fly mask. If he is forced to go the pasture without it, he will stand by the gate all day flinging his head about until someone gets it and puts it on him. No aliens will ever get this fly mask!

I had an entire brush box reappear from the void last week.
In my basement.
I KNOW it was at the barn last.
Honestly, the aliens should not have picked horse people as the latest segment of the population to mess with. Normal people would worry themselves into a tizzy that they'd gone crazy- horse people all went crazy ages ago, so we're inclined to just smile and nod when the void regifts our schwag. Probably takes all the fun out of it.

"Of course I picked up the 40 pound brush box, brought it home, and left it on the basement stairs, and stepped right over it for three weeks straight, even at five AM uncaffinated kitty feed call. Of course I did. Duh."
