View Full Version : Can't believe someone just threw her out!

Some of you may remember me posting 5 or 6 months ago about coming home from school and finding this horse at my back fence. There's nothing but woods back there. AC figures, probably rightly, that she was just turned loose. No owners were found. She's obviously been used as a broodmare. The vet put her at 20+. She turned out to be broke and my son has ridden her a couple times.
She had pneumonia recently and was finally well so we went out so he could ride her. A couple neighborhood children came and asked if they could ride too. She stood perfectly still with a loose rein while my son got on and rode a little first. He's 12 and a bit timid and doesn't have much experience riding. He walked and trotted a little. His grin was from ear to ear.
She then stood for each child in turn to get themselves on, some with a little help. All insisted on jumping off. She never moved except when being lead by my son or ridden by my son.
This horse is an absolute gem. Whoever tossed her out couldn't have known what a great kids' horse she is.
Whoever adopts her is going to get a wonderful horse.

I remember your original thread! People are amazing, aren't they  She sounds like a true diamond in the rough. (And good for you too!!)

You give people too much credit.
I remember the original thread too. Made me all warm and fuzzy because my first pony (who was also the perfect kids' horse) looked quite a bit like her.
But seriously, don't you know any horse who makes your kid grin like that is a keeper?;)
Thank you again for taking her in and nursing her back to health.
ETA: And may whoever threw her out be cursed with incurable diarrhea.

Aw sweet!
I will never understand the mentality of those who abandoned her

That's really nice.
While it's not wonderful, I guess I would prefer that people turn horses loose than lock them in a barn and walk away. We had a case in CT many years ago where they did just that. Pretty sad by the time they found them.
There needs to be good information readily available for people about placement options for horses or this sort of thing will continue.
OK, hijack over. Glad this mare found someone decent to give her a chance.

Six months ago I would have agreed with you. Not, not so much.
There is a local case here in IL of a presumably dumped horse. Loud bay overo paint was found in the middle of nowhere. Horse's feet were trimmed, mane pulled, tail banged, in good weight--a really nice looking horse--and in 2 weeks, no one has claimed him. Whoever dumped obviously got him and/or kept him in great condition, but he was dumped anyway.
The "foster mom" says he is a sweetheart--no obvious reasons yet as to why someone would just turn him loose. Sad.

I know times are rough and that's probably why she was dumped but figured kids horses were worth their weight in gold. I do agree it's better she was turned loose before she was in worse shape though.
Sadly, we can't keep her. Finances won't allow. We already have two and only two acres. Next year when I finish school and start working, I'll be able to get a kids horse. Who knows, Ginger might still be available!
Luv, I can't believe someone would take such good care of a horse and turn it loose like that! Wow!

Have you checked the "Stolen Horse International" Website? the horse could be miles from his original home.
