So on Saturday I took Rex (my 2 y/o Oldenburg gelding by Routinier) to his first show. The local Arab club was having an open show as well as hosting a dressage show. I opted to just bring Rex and leave Layla at home as our GMO is hosting a dressage show next weekend. I also took my boarder and her horse so she could show in her first dressage show in over 2 years.

Friday it was cooler but still humid but that was the beginning of the cold front. By Saturday morning, it was in the 50s and windy. We left the house at 7:15am. It was crisp outside but the boys loaded great.

Got the boys unloaded. Rex was snorting and arching his neck and looking around but was very well behaved. Once we got the boys in their stalls, they just hung out and ate hay.

Rex's and I's first class was Model Hunter. It was an in hand class where the judge looks at the horses confo and judges it for suitability for a hunter. The horses are presented in bridles and the handler wears show clothes (luckily a polo and breeches and tall boots were ok).

The show was very busy and lots of excited arabs prancing around. Rex was taking it all in and was being so good. Then we came up on a mini in a big blanket. Whew. That one threw him for a loop. He was snorting at it and arching his neck but did not take one misstep.

The classes were held inside the covered arena while people milled around the panels that made the arena... bleachers full of kids running, wind was whipping through, all kinds of horses, and the guy on the intercom echoing in the arena.

In goes baby horse, with 5 other horses, and we stand him up. Hes looking around and a little wiggly but not bad. Judge asks his age and I tell her he is 2 and it is his first show. She was impressed.

I expected last place as I mean, hes 2, gangly, and last week started getting butt high and gawky again. But we got 3rd!

I thanked the judge when we left and she said that he was a VERY nice horse just needed to fill out and that he was going to be very nice and I would have a lot of fun with him. So I was so proud of him!

After that class we walked over to the dressage arena/warm up area to watch my boarders first class. There were lots of horses warming up, all the arab halter horses mingling outside the covered arena waiting to go in, again WINDY and cold. Lots going on.

The only "bad" thing Rex did all day was while standing watching my boarder, he squeeled and reared out of excitement. But he just went up and came back down and was like "oooh Im sorry" and then just stood there.

We had a couple of hours until the next class which was just a gelding halter class. I knew we wouldnt place in that but again it was just for exposure.

We had to walk in and then trot the short side of the arena and then stand him up. There were 19! horses in this class. So LOTS going on. But Rex trotted PERFECTLY in hand and then stood there for me. He was wiggly but we did have to stand for a while but he was soooo good. Quite a few people commented on how tall he was and were even more shocked when I said he was 2! lol

He was perfect in his stall though and we walked around a little after the class and no snorting or anything. Just PERFECT!

I didnt get pics from the halter class as my boarder was showing her Training level test at the same time and it was her first time showing Training so I had my hubby video her instead of take pics of me. But here are a few pics. Im so proud!!!
