Due to the floods, our usual hay supplier lost his entire inventory. So we are going to attend our first hay auction next week. I know the concept, but would love some advice about the best way to proceed with bidding. I'm not worried about the types of hay or quality, we have that covered. There is a 10% buyers premium....is that the fee the auction company gets on top of the price of hay?

sure...if you buy long distance as we often do, we have the auction house act as our agent
they want our repeat business and can pinpoint in their consigned inventory what we need....we have some very specific parameters and can express the parameter clearly....make sure your agent speaks the same language you do
...and you can watch the sales online...which is fun...
the last one had the auctioneer saying
" and sold on Internet to Tennessee! that's right boys all the way to Opryland to the press from right here at <inset name>"
we died laughing and called and told them to tell the auctioneer that we were quite past Opryland to the eastern mountains ;)
best
