So I recently bought a pair, have maybe worn them between 8-10 times. I wondering if maybe I got too big a size... When I first got them I noticed they seemed to be a little loose around the ankle and the part of the chap that goes over your boot. After riding, it has only stretched out more to the point where I can grab a good amount of extra fabric. They fit fairly well in the calf, however they were never super tight. When I originally bought them my calf measured 14.5 so I went with the medium (which is 15). Now I'm wondering if I should have gone with the small...however if other wearers have noticed this, I'm not going to sweat it.
TIA!

You went too big. :( I was on the borderline between two sizes and went with the smaller size since the ProChaps have a stretchy channel. They broke in to feel like a second skin, no baggyness at all.

Agree, you went too big. They do stretch and need to be very tight when you first buy them.

I agree with the others - I was able to try some on before I bought and that convinced me to go down a size when looking at the measurements.
Since you can wash them, I wonder if you threw them in the washer if that would shrink them a little? Or do as I have with too big chaps -- save them to wear in the winter over multiple layers of clothing, and buy another "regular" pair in the smaller size.:)

BAAAHHH!!!! Well thanks for the input everyone...I think that these have stretched a lot though...and Prochaps claims that their half chaps shouldn't stretch, right? Isn't that kind of the point of having that panel, as opposed to all leather?

I have them in full chaps and i think i should have gotten a size smaller...then were pretty tight at first, but after wearing them for a while they've loosened up a bit and i have to occassionally pull them up into the proper place... b/c they're material they are very stretchy

Ok since Prochaps seem to be on fire sale right now on a couple sites, I think its a good time for me to replace my too big pair. However, I really want to make sure I get the right size this time.
Chart says that a small is for calf 14-15, XS is 13-14. Mine measures 14.5 at the widest. Should I go for the XS or the S?

If you only wore them a few times you probably don't need to get a new pair just yet.
Check with a shoemaker in your area what he would charge to just take them in a little bit. Unless the chaps were super cheap he could probably get you a nice fit for much less then a new pair would cost you.
We've got a great shoemaker where I live and ever since somebody clued us in on his existance we've all saved a lot of money on having him do a bunch of small repairs on everything from paddockboots to chaps and even some of our school saddles!

They do run large (I ended up a size smaller than I thought I'd need), but mine didn't stretch. At all. The fit is sleek and non-baggy.

When you measured the height - were they true to the measurement, or did you go up?

Adams Horse supplies has a couple sizes in black for sale also. The first time around I thought I had measured correctly but I obviously didn't. I'll have to see about a leather repair place fixing them, but I'm concerned that will mess with the placement of seams and the like and have them end up being uncomfortable.
So with a 14.5 calf, do you guys think a small would be small enough? My current ones did stretch and drop just a bit.

I would go with the small.. mine fit very snug and really haven't relaxed that much and I've had them almost 3 years now. I got fitted for them by the Pro Chaps rep at Rolex that year. They have enough stretch in the panel that should give so I think they would fit fine. I love mine.
eta I just measured my calf and I am a 14.5 and mine are smalls.

Hi guys!
I am an avid horseback rider and ProChaps is a family business that my father started in 2004. Needless to say, I know alot about these chaps and have been working closely with the company the 7 years its been up and running! Prochaps are made with neoprene meaning they are a very stretchy and breathable material. The size chart (which you can either find on our website www.prochaps.com or on the actual bag the chaps come in) show the calf size versus length of leg. You said you were a 14.5 calf width which would mean you are a small. Prochaps will stretch to the size of your leg so do not worry, as long as you make sure you measurements match those on the chart than you are guaranteed a sure fit. If you have any more questions do not hesitate to contact us at our home base in Montreal (contact information is on the website) - where you can talk with the creator of the chaps himself, just to make sure you receive exactly what you want or please feel free to continue asking me questions, it is my pleasure to help you out!
Thanks

My calf measures 14.5" and I got a small. After about 9 months of use (abuse) they are still a perfect fit! I love my ProChaps - best half chaps I have ever had!

My calf measures thirteen inches exactly. Recently bought Tredstep Trimlines in 13in. were too big. What size ProChaps do you recommend?

I got my ProChaps today and I love them! My calf measures 14 so I got the XS (13-14). They are VERY snug (takes 2 hands to zip), but not unreasonable or painful. The stretch panel has about 1 inch of stretch.
When I measured for the height without shoes/boots, I was a 17. To make sure they would be tall enough (I prefer a little too tall, than too short), I tried to order an 18, but ended up with a 19 (18's sold out in the color/fringe combo that I wanted). The 19's are a bit too tall (about 3/4 inch), but will be perfect when they soften
I hope this helps everyone!
