So people with experience, talk to me. :) My horse needs a little more than a snaffle for doing hunter paces - but hates a pelham. (Tried a very mild, no port.) What are folks' thoughts when you need a little more stop but your horse appears to hate pressure on the lower jaw?

one vote for elevator bits. It's easier to release pressure on them than it is with a traditional gag. However, they work fairly much the same.

Cool. I have been confused as to whether they were more similar to a curb bit. I.e. where the pressure was, jaw or poll.
