Just got this about well known dressage trainer in Texas, Lydon Rife:

"As some of you may have heard, Lyndon Rife, one of our Region 9 Dressage Trainers, was involved in a very serious accident last night. He suffered broken ribs and a ruptured spleen. From what I understand, he was in very critical condition and underwent surgery to remove his spleen. He is in ICU at Denton Regional Hospital .

Lyndon and Julie now need our help. As is the case with many of our equestrian professionals, they do not have coverage to pay for these medical bills and will not be working to bring in income.

It has only been 24 hours, but I have heard some wonderful stories about how the community is helping out. Some of our Region 9 trainers have already stepped in to help with their lessons and horses in training. And an account has been set up to help collect funds for them.

Funds can be deposited in the following ways:

At a Wells Fargo Bank - make check payable to "Lyndon Rife Medical Fund". Account # is not necessary, but it is: 8429961256.
or

2. Make check payable to "Lyndon Rife Medical Fund" and mail to: Sarah Hester, 5811 N. Woodcreek Cir., McKinney , TX 75071 . She will send people a response letting them know she received and deposited the check.

We will also have an envelope at the Regional Championships in Katy , TX next weekend.

Please keep Lyndon and Julie in your thoughts and prayers.

I posted about this last night in off course. He got bucked off and broke several ribs and ruptured his spleen. Underwent emergency surgery and is currently in ICU. Will update when we hear from Julie later.

Lyndon is still in ICU, but off the ventilator. He is in stable condition, and is, hopefully, on the road to recovery. He and Julie appreciate the outpouring of support and good wishes. I don't think it will be too long before we see him at the warm-up arena, coaching one of his many clients.

What a terrible thing to happen to such a nice guy! Thank you for posting it here. He is certainly in my thoughts and I wish him a speedy recovery. I think his students will have to duct tape him to a chair in order to keep him away from coaching in the warm-up. And on that note, I hope he really takes the time to recover.

Hurrah for Lyndon!
The ventalator is not fun at all. I am glad he has the fight in him to keep going. I hope he gets over the sore throat fast. Can he talk now? Lots of jingles...

Thank you so much for that update. Julie didn't get a chance to update us tonight. Can't wait for Lyndon to be ringside again.

So glad to hear that things are going well and that the prognosis is good. Hoping to see him completely recovered well before Dressage Across the Lake here in Folsom, LA in the spring. Jingles and prayers for Lyndon and Julie.

You can send Lyndon an e-greeting through Denton Hospital via this link http://www.dentonregional.com/PatEmail.asp. Volunteers print them out and bring them to the patient.

Because Lyndon is still in ICU, I don't think the above link will work. Julie said today that he is doing much better. Feeding tube has also been removed, so bring on the Jello!! His spirits are high. His working student, Caryn, and I are going to see him tomorrow.

A good friend of mine works in the ICU at another hospital and her patients receive theirs. :)
