Errr, don't think it's quite that dramatic, not really 100, or was not the other day and is not forecast to be. And Montana is still relatively warm despite early snow-no minus zeros. Yet.
With the enclosed trailer and especially in a group on that trailer, they build up alot of heat and most have trouble with them getting too HOT, even when it's cool out.
Friend might want to send a blanket with the horse but hauler may not want to fool with putting it on, and it is too warm to send him off in it. If it's a private hauler, then just have them put a blankey on him when they reach cooler temps.
He should be fine in the trailer either way, friend does need to think about blankets when he steps off that trailer though.

I am so jealous of your friend! I hate AZ summers and think they put more stress on horses than a cold winter! It is a fairly long journey so aside from having a blanket on board if needed, make sure they are well hydrated before the trip and during. Good luck and enjoy!

horses travel all the time. Add oil to his feed and make sure he drinks. Blankets are good. It's only October, Three Forks was up to mid 20s today and warming over the weekend.

Get some APF (www.auburnlabs.com also available elsewhere), as it helps horse cope with stress of any kind.

blanket and possibly an anti-acid (only say this because when my horse gets cold he gets bad ulcer flare ups, we keep him well blanketed starting late august at nights until June in Idaho)

PS Don't over think it. When it's cold out you put on a coat. Viruses run around more because people get couped up indoors (samething for the horses) so make sure the barn has good ventilation, especially if its heated!
