I had NO idea there was an Amish community *anywhere* in the South, but indeed there is: in Ethridge, Tennessee.
I got wind of it strictly by chance when my trainer & I went to look at a used harness for sale down the road. It wasn't suitable for either her horse or mine, but it WAS well made and sturdy and not from any of the "usual suspects", so I asked from whence it came. "[XXX so as not to advertise] Harness Shop in Ethridge, Tennessee" came the reply. Further investigatory conversation revealed that indeed, this is an Amish community and maker!
I got the maker's name and address and wrote to him by snail mail, as is customary; received a lovely reply quoting a VERY fair price for what I need and inviting me to come and see his shop and his work.
As soon as these WRETCHED floods are over and I can actually get out of here... road trip time!
