Shipper was supposed to pick up horse in IL yesterday afternoon. Called just before scheduled pickup time to say weather had held them up, and they would pick up Friday around noon.

I was irritated but oh well.

Shipper didn't show. I'm in TN and have the inlaws here and am scrambling to figure out something. Trainer wants horse (currently on the track TB) gone yesterday.

Doubt it was weather. More like they didn't have a full load so didn't make the haul - not enuf $$$

they'll get there when they have a load they think they can make money on

keep calling them

I just shipped 2 horses cross country and had a similar issue. The horses got picked up as scheduled (on a Monday), and shipper said they'd be delivered Friday or Saturday. They said they were picking up 2 horses on the way, and that there would be 4 in the trailer (my 2 plus the other 2) for the bulk of the trip.

Well, Friday came and went, Saturday came and went, Sunday came and went. No horses. Shippers answered my calls, but it was always an excuse. Dust storm here, road construction there, yadda yadda. Monday morning I'm really ticked because I had to now miss work to wait for their call to meet them. They try to put me off until TUESDAY (the horses were already on the trailer since the previous MONDAY). I go ballistic. Horses finally arrive at 9:30 PM on Monday night. And there are at least 3 other horses on the trailer when they unload mine.

So they must have gotten a last minute pickup and instead of explaining that to me, decided to lie. My 2 guys were so exhausted that it took them 2 weeks before they started acting like themselves again.

The shipper that brought Bella to me was VERY good. Nice rig, on time delivery (well an hour late but not HIS fault - Georgia seems to believe desperately that every interstate needs work and only one lane has to be open).

He only hauls ONE person's horses at a time, no offloading or side load pickups. Goes door to door and I will use him if I ever need to ship a horse. A bit more expensive but Bella walked off the trailer looking fresh as a daisy. Shipper is licensed and insured and bonded.

So if you are shipping - this is a good privately owned company: JKM Enterprises. Kevin Medford out of North Carolina.

I have no business interest in this company but feel when one gets great service, one should give a plug now and then.

What weather problems? Rain? We work in the rain.... sounds like an excuse.

May I ask who the shipper is?

I sent a truck to Florida yesterday from Chicago, If I knew I could have put your TN horse on for you.

This is criminal to the horses!!! Pure abuse to the animals! Gives us legitimate shippers a bad name. Please post the name of this shipping company so others don't have to make the same mistake! Make me sick.

JKM Enterprises - Kevin Medford - 828-734-6067

I was very pleased and asks lots of questions about pickups and dropoffs - and he stopped me in mid stride and said he only works for ONE person at a time - no side trips, no stop offs to deliver or pickup others,

your horse is the ONLY horse(s) on the trailer when contracted for a shipment. He does try to fill the trailer on the return, but only with the same sort of ride. None of this stop here, stop there, etc.

I prefer a private hauler that only hauls this way. I know it costs a bit more due to not having but a single horse on a trailer, but at least the horse gets where it is going on time without delays. Oh and he was very good about calling me to keep me informed, especially when he was two hours away and stuck on I-85 with the road construction. He also stops every four hours for a rest break and water break for the horses.

This is why I don't shop around for prices or go to the sites where you can have your hauling job bid on. I work with Bob Hubbard for shipping retirees from the West Coast to Tennessee and Tapp Horse Transportation based out of Versailles, KY for all of the East Coast horses. Neither are inexpensive but they always show up and drop off when they say they will. I can't imagine what your stress level must be right now, dealing with a no show shipper.

Agreed onthebit.

When I needed to ship my 3 cross country (one of whom had some special needs), I got good references. It was not the cheapest quote, but they had the best references. Now that said, the actual ship date was a moving target. They wanted to fill the trailer. But instead of yanking me around, they TOLD me that.

My horses had to be gone from place X before they were going to have a full load, so they picked my guys up and took them to their farm for a couple of days N/C. I've used these haulers several times and referred several friends who also had good experiences.

That said, my best girlfriend did the price based decision making process. Hauler no showed several times. At the last minute, she FINALLY ended up hiring someone more reputable and THEN had to haggle around to get her money back from the shady shipper.

Not saying the OP didn't do her homework...but not all haulers are equal.

PS: I use Azevedo Transportation. Todd and Tony Azevedo have been great. On the last haul, my old man wasn't drinking very well and they had vets lined up along the way just in case. They were superb.

I found Kevin on Uship after another shipper flaked out on me. Not only did he do an AMAZING job, he also honored the other shippers quote. Door to door, and he took his time to make sure each horse was settled in no drop and run. Hands down one of the best shippers out there and goes coast to coast.

It was Katie and Paco he brought up btw..from Sunkissed Acres.

Can we have hte name on the shipper who didn't show? I'm getting quotes for a long-distance haul and now I'm paranoid! Please PM if you don't want to broadcast it publically.

and Tapp Horse Transportation based out of Versailles, KY

I second this!!!!! They are fabulous. I have used them 3 times now in the last 10 years. Riggs are comfortable for the horses, they show up when they say they will, fees are very reasonable. Would use them again in a hearbeat if I needed to move a horse long distance.
