I've just been watching the Fiddler on the Roof DVD with commentary by Norman Jewison and Topol. They have some wonderful stories to tell about the horse who played Tevye's horse. He was a rescue that was on his way to the knacker's when he was cast for the part. If you can get the DVD, watch both the documentary about the making of the film, and the film itself with the commentary. Lovely stories about this horse, and about how Norman Jewison made sure that he was given a good home after the crew left the location. He kept sending money to Yugoslavia to care for the horse, who lived out his life in peace and happiness on a local farm.
Don't want to put spoilers here in case you want to get the DVD, but if anyone wants to know more I would be happy to tell what I learned.
