View Full Version : Anyone from MD Racing remember P Day?

Oct. 7, 2009, 02:30 PM
1995 dark bay gelding by Private Terms.
Raced 56 starts, won $683,000.

Well I some how ended up getting him from a racehorse adoption and just wanted to know if anyone remembered watching him race?

Hell, yes, any Marylander worth their salt will remember P Day. He's named that because he was born on Preakness Day. He was bred and raced by Charlie Hadry, who died of cancer a few years back. I think his son was racing his stock for a while.

How's he doing? He was quite the warrior. He always showed up on race day.

He's doing great and loves his new job :)
We are eventing him Novice level right now and planning to move him up to training next year. He thinks the little jumps are boring and he makes time just by cantering.
I did gallop him just for kicks and giggles once and it was amazing (and a bit scary) a lot different from my little appendix qh for sure.
but here are some recent pictures of him:

Just makes me so happy! A professional horse is just that - he is so proud of himself and of doing a good job. I wonder if he'll actually have to make an effort jumping anytime before Prelim - yet he's got his game face on and is totally showing up in this new life of his. You are so lucky and he is so lucky to have you! What a happy, athletic team!

You have GOT to contact the Mid-Atlantic TB magazine. Every month they do a column called "Pensioners on Parade" of a notable local runner in retirement. Email Lucy Acton at lacton@marylandthoroughbred.com and send her the photos!

That is a great idea! Even better get them to send Lydia out to photograph him for you. She does great work, I had her shoot my brood this summer and got some lovely pics.

Great to hear about P Day. I'm in NY but follow mid Atlantic racing a bit and I remember him as a hard hitting runner. I imagine eventing might be right up his alley.
I love happy TB stories!!!:yes::D:)

I'm just getting caught up on my reading with Thoroughbred Times, and I wanted to say there's a nice write up about New Vocations, P Day and the OP. Great before and after shots of him in it too. On page 13 in the October 10 issue.
Hats off to New Vocations. Great progam, one that we could use more of across the country.

Anna, from New Vocations is sending me a copy of the thoroughbred times. :)
And me and P-Day just did the Maryland Horse Trials a week ago and we are doing the Waredaca Horse trials this coming weekend, pictures from MDHT below!

I received my January issue of Mid-Atlantic TB last night, and guess who was featured in Pensioners on Parade??

Hope this link works: http://digitaledition.qwinc.com/publication/?i=29124&&p=17

Terrific article! I had no idea he had been in such a bad way!

I can't see the story (have to subscribe apparently) but wanted to mention I met P Day and his lovely rider at a clinic a few weekends ago.

He is absolutely gorgeous and just amazing at his new job :)
