I am forced to give up Storm, my 'pup.' I am going to have to travel a lot over the next 4 years to gain experience in my field and finish graduate school. While I have friends that are more then happy to watch Storm, the inconsistency is really hard for her, and my new busy schedule doesn't allow me to give her the time she needs even when I'm home. She is stressed, and I am feeling like a pretty awful mom.

Storm is 75 lbs of love, with the worst bark you can imagine, but really does love people and will greet them with her rear end, ready for a good butt scratch. She will happily sleep all day, but you do start to notice her getting frustrated if she doesn't get out regularly. For several years, we lived in a rural area where she could be outdoors all day, and this would be ideal for her. She does get along with other dogs in a house hold, but is alpha female, so a male dog would be a better match. She is not destructive in a home, unless she has access to trash cans (yum!). Loves toys of all kinds, and tries to fit as many in her mouth as possible, especially right when you come home.

She is about 4 1/2 currently, and I've had her since she was a pup. She's fine for the occasional vacation, but I have had to take regular trips, and with different care takers each time, she's not thrilled about it. She loves car trips, and spent a month road tripping and camping with me last year, very happily.

She needs to go to a home with experience in large, smart, high energy and VERY FOCUSED dogs. :) Malinois pick a focus and have a hard time giving that up.. it's how they're hardwired. She's good on the leash 99% of the time, unless she finds something so incredibly interesting that she just can't give it up... and that's a breed thing.

When she's out regularly, she has great recall and can be off leash. She's very intelligent and loves to learn tricks. We were working on agility before money and time got too tight, but she would be fantastic if someone wanted to pursue that with her.

If you think you'd be the perfect home for Storm... please email or PM.

Thanks! (and please, I know I shouldn't give up a dog, but in reality, me keeping her will be worse for her then a transition to a new and stable home. I've been mulling over this for 6 months now. It's time. )

Oh, if I didn't live at home with my parents and their alpha-female cocker spaniel, she looks like she'd be a fantastic pal for Pirate. (Similar size, and he loves to play with other dogs and has a really easy-going attitude about life. He's more than happy to follow Foxy's lead on things, so I imagine it'd be the same with another alpha female type.)

Fingers crossed she finds a good home.

Thanks guys, she is a LOVELY girl.

Maybedog, I'm in the mountains of NC (or could be in central NC too). I'm also willing to drive a fair way if she has a good home waiting. :) She is socialized with other dogs. Her thing is, the more she's been cooped up, the more worked up she'll get about the prospect of getting out/playing/etc. (ie: barking at other dogs). Actually interacting with them/living with them/playing with them is never an issue.

(Sorry for the delayed response - been packing and working on moving. Ugh.)
